Go long!

I’ve never been good at throwing things. Be it basketballs, footballs, handeggs, baseballs, whatever. Same with kicking and/or hitting things with paddles, rackets or whatever. I’m not totally sure how much of that I was born with and how much is just a result of not trying hard enough. I never was a good loser as a kid, so I never really got into sports and rather spent my time reading comics, drawing and later on playing guitar. In my early twenties I finally discovered the joy of being active, but even now, I only do things like running, lifting or skiing, all things where there’s no score, haha.

I can sympathise with most of that Stef. I was (and still am!) hopeless at ‘hitting’ games, like cricket, rounders, softball etc, and thouroughly hated having to play them. My hand-eye co-ordination was so bad, I just couldn’t ever make contact with the ball at all…. Mind you, I loved playing football (soccer). I was hopeless at that too, but curiously, it didn’t seem to matter.
Cross-country running was my sport. While most of the kids just ran until out of sight of the school, then play about in the woods, I used to run far beyond the ‘official’ 2 mile course, clocking up 4 or 5 miles in the allowed time. Being totally unsupervised for an hour of schooltime was just great!

I can neither throw, catch, or kick a ball. Thus at school, I took up Rugby Football. I could tackle other players, and, at a pinch, pick up a ball, cuddle it and run fast.
However, I stopped growing and other schoolboys continued to grow, so I gave up on Rugby. At age 80, I find flying my ideal sport.

“Get off the iPad!” needs to be a Chuck comic! I thought only Chuck did that stuff!
