Jingling noise

Growing up in Europe, I only knew the concept of ice cream trucks out of comics and movies. I guess it makes sense in the spacious suburban setting in the US. But I always felt kinda sorry for the kids who couldn’t choose at which time they could buy their ice cream, but had to wait for a truck to pass by. On the other hand, you get your ice cream delivered to your doorstep and don’t have to walk half a mile to the next ice cream store.

Anyway, I wish you all a great summer with lots of ice cream!

You shouldn’t feel too bad. In many places in the US, not only was the sight and sound of the ice cream truck a mark that the summer season was upon us, but we would know the exact times and locations of most of them. Most trucks followed (and still follow) certain routes, and after the first day or two, you could literally set your watch to when they drove down your street, and/or you would know exactly where they would park. You knew, for instance, that between exactly 2PM and 4PM it would be sitting at the local school, or that at 4:45PM it would drive down your street, and if you didn’t catch it to walk five blocks and it would pass by there half an hour later, and at 7PM in the evening it would be at such-and-such a location next to the local park.

I do wish that ice cream trucks also passed by the local airports, but you can’t have everything.
