Kind of an emergency

Ok, show of hands; who has tried this as a kid?! Be honest! And I really like Chucks math in the last panel. How he ever was able to pass his commercial checkride is still a mystery to me.

I want to leave you with a second question as well. We see great upset in the social media world. And, of course, we see way too many politics and anger lately every time we turn on Facebook or Twitter. Personally, I’m getting tired of scrolling past pages and pages of outrage and hate just to get to my groups and my fun aviation stuff. Therefore, the following question:

Should we try to revive our forum?

We’re not getting rid of our other platforms, but we though it might be nice to return to old-school.

What do you guys think?

I’m not sure it’s working 100% but it is still supported. I just can’t seem to upload photos, but maybe you guys know how. Would be cool to get some fun memes and aviation jokes in there for everyone to share …

My 2 bob’s worth… I get joy from seeing your bright spot in my Facebook feed 😊
You are a gem amongst the everyday mush!
I don’t often “like” or comment, but I ALWAYS enjoy your cartoons!

To answer your first question, can we plead the 5th?

To answer your second question, yes; though considering the advances in technology (read: slaves-to-devices) between when you started this and now, you may want to consider making it mobile-compatible, if it isn’t already. Speaking of which, I was meaning to ask, most of the posts are over 5 years old and many of those over 10, why did the forum disappear for so long?

If you do this, you’ll need good moderators and some regulations. If you go to you’ll see why theirs works well. They have a discussion area that allows members only and a sub-area within it for discussing politics and religion, etc. that is the ONLY place it’s allowed. It works well for keeping things civil.

@ Heather: Thanks for your kind words! 😀

@ JZ: The forum never went away, it was just slowly forgotten by everybody with the rise of social media. It would need some major overhaul, that’s for sure. We don’t want to put in the effort, if only five people are interested, but we have a feeling that more “private” public spaces might be making a comeback.

@Pete: Actually things were pretty civil, usually! Moderation consisted of mostly weeding out spam. The forum crowd was really civilized, and politics and religion were taboo. Sigh, now when I write about it, I get sentimental, haha! I wonder if online discourse culture has been irrevocably altered …

Since I live in the Deep South, when I was a kid, we used to do this with the old metal ice cube trays.

We have never used “Social media”, Self and Barbara regard it as mainly “anti-social media”. But have subscribed to a number of aviation related Forums (Fora?), in the past. we would dip our toes occasionally.

I’m a few days late, but I think I would appreciate an “old-school” forum. As far as I know, self-hosted forums are a nightmare to keep free of spam, but I would love if you try!

I don’t post a lot these days, but still enjoy that both and are still old-style fora.
