Crucifix and garlic

Halloween is approaching fast. Here in Austria, the custom has only caught on recently. I wouldn’t even call it a custom. In fact there are many people who are opposed to “importing American culture” and refuse to partake in any form. I’m firmly in Team Halloween though! We don’t go overboard, but we do have some sweets for trick or treaters who may come and we do roam the neighborhood with our kids. They usually return home with boatloads of sweets. No wonder the retailers are all-in on Halloween, haha!

With St. Nicholas and Christmas coming up right after in one-month intervals, the sweets usually last until Easter, where the stock gets replenished again. And that is with me helping out liberally with consumption. The last chocolate Easter bunnies get melted in for the birthday cakes in fall … the abundance we live in is truly amazing, sometimes.

Doesn’t it have to be an actual crucifix to work though?
