ChatGPT
I always loved sci-fi shows, books and movies! Star Trek, Star Wars, Terminator, Alien, all that good stuff. As I’m getting older, so do the movies, shows and books. And it’s very interesting to see which predictions come true and which were completely off the mark. For example, nobody really predicted smart phones and what they can do. In Star Trek, they communicate with their clunky communicators, which would be put to shame by an average iPhone.
Another thing that’s not coming true from Star Trek, is the idea that the whole world can live in peace and harmony. That would be even cooler than having a warp drive. Alas, we still have some way to go there, and seem to be walking in circles.
But to get to the point I actually wanted to get at: Artificial intelligence. It’s awesome! But really, really spooky. I have started to use ChatGPT and Adobe Firefly for various projects, and it makes work so much easier in many regards. And there’s tons of other applications too, such as Suno, that can write songs for you. As a professional artist and a hobby musician, the whole development scares me though. When you extrapolate into the future, how much art will be done by humans and how much by computers? Wasn’t the whole idea that technology would relieve us of menial labor, so we could focus on arts and higher aspirations? Seems like we’re entering a world, where the robots compose music and we still have to clean toilets. That’s not the utopia I had in mind!
Still, probably better to have machines make art than going full Terminator on us, haha!

I love your point on IA doing arts and us tidying toilets…..indeed, not sure this can be called « progress »
