Chuck and Julio at the Sochi Winter Olympics

Roos in’t Velt, our #1 Fan from the Netherlands, sent us another great piece of fan artwork! I am pretty sure that this is what it would look like if Chuck participated at the Winter Games.

I wonder if curling is the sport he would pick, but as long as heli skiing is not an Olympic discipline, I can’t think of a more suitable sport. At least he can keep on his sunglasses then!

How about this version of heliskiing. Seems like this pilot misunderstood the concept a bit:

P.S. When I see a rotors turning helicopter sliding near me, I’d rather hit the ground very quickly.

    WOAH! What happened there?
Looks like something breaks on the helicopter. And one blade root looks cracked on the aftermath pictures….
Did he pull too hard on the rotorbrake? strike the tailboom?

In the video the HC can be seen to land, then slide slightly, lift-off and reposition and then land again. Then the engines seem (I can’t quite make out the sound) to be shut down. When the HC starts to slide the blades can be seen to bend up and make that unpleasant sound.

All that happens very early in the slide, before he gets near anything to collide with (the press on the other hand says he hit a sign which broke the blade). And I can’t see any damage to the blade or tail boom that would indicate a collision.

Something seems to have overstressed the blade during shut down.
