1. Where do you guys get your ideas from?

Everywhere. Sometimes we have to think really hard. Some ideas just pop up by themselves. Some come from friends. Some situations in the strips are real life experiences, some are inspired by old pilot gossips and jokes, which we take the liberty of putting into coherent graphical form, and finally some come from stories or jokes which are sent in by our fans, using out contact form.

2. How is a typical Chicken Wings Strip created?

For a detailed description, look here. This is the synopsis: Whenever we get together (which isn’t so often, because Mike lives in California and Stef in Austria), we go for Sushi, drink a lot of beer and get creative. The next morning we try to decipher the notes we made and turn them into little drafts, which then go into a big pile of papers and eventually get lost. When we find them again Stef draws them, scans them and puts the lettering in it. Besides the lettering everything else is done by hand. Yes, even the talk balloons. But quite often, we have a lot of ideas just popping up while we’re doing something else, especially Mike, who’s working in aviation and just has to keep his eyes open for inspiration.

3. Can I print your strip in my publication?

Sure! Chicken Wings already is a regular feature in seven different magazines around the world (and counting, of course). If you want to use our strips in your magazine as well, please take a closer look at our licensing section and get in touch with us. We give away some material for free for very small or non-profit publications, such as EAA chapter newsletters. Feel free to contact us regarding this matter, but please be aware that the emphasis here is on "some". If you want to feature us regularly, we give special discounts to such publications, but we'll have to charge a small fee nonetheless.

4. What is the copyright situation of your comics?

All our art that is published here is © Michael and Stefan Strasser 2002-2005, all rights reserved. No part of this website may be reproduced without written permission of Michael or Stefan Strasser. Regional copyright laws and restrictions apply.

5. Can you do some (free/paid) work for me?

Anything goes. Of course we prefer getting paid. Since we both have a daytime job, it might well be that we have to turn you down in busy times, but people who are willing to pay have a higher priority, of course.

6. There’s a spelling/grammar mistake in your comic!

Get a life!

7. Why is Chuck sometimes flying from the right seat?

Believe it or not, this is quite possibly the most frequently asked question we get. We admit that it's a very mysterious and disturbing circumstance that seems to occupy many great and keen thinkers out there. Are some of the images mirror-inverted? Is there a secret code behind this disquieting irregularity? Is Chuck so stupid that he doesn't even know where to sit? Uhm... no. File it under "artistic freedom". We just put him where he best fits into the picture.

8. Why does Chuck only have three stripes on his shoulder?

Same here. There's no reason. Stef started out drawing him with three stripes until Mike pointed out the mistake. Too late, because Stef is a creature of habit. And also in many small and detailed drawings it's just easier to draw.

9. Do you accept guest art and guest strips?

Bring it on! We'll put up a guest art section as soon as we have enough material for it. You’re welcome to contact us, if you want to contribute.

10. Where can I read more Chicken Wings?

Well, the best thing you can do to quench your insatiable desire for more Chicken Wings, is to buy our book, of course! Also, you can find our strips in various publications, such as Trade-A-Plane and America's Flyways in the US, Siivet in Finland, Pilot Magazine in the UK, Take-Off in Portugal, Flynytt in Norway and Aeromarkt in Germany. Be sure to check out these fine publications if you get hold of a copy somewhere!

11. What can I do to support you guys?

There's a lot you can do!
  • The easiest thing you can do is to tell your friends about us. We'd be happy if you'd help us spread the word!
  • If you’re an editor, license our comic! We have reasonable rates that are even lower than those of syndicated comics and cartoons, even though we’re not syndicated. If you're a publisher, give us a contract and make us famous!
  • If you’re a fan, you can buy our gear (comic book, t-shirt etc.) in our online shop.
  • You can vote for us at several voting and ranking sites.
  • And last but not least: If you want us to be featured in your favourite magazine or newspaper, please tell the editor! Your opinion can make a big difference! Also, if we're already in a magazine you read, please tell the editor that you like our comic! We have made the experience that editors value the feedback of their readers a great deal.

12. What is this voting thing you keep bothering us with?

It works like this: There are voting sites for online comics where a ranking is established which is based upon how many people vote for a particular comic. The higher a comic gets in the ranking, the more people see it and visit the comic's website. You can vote for us once a day by clicking on the vote buttons to the left, and we're happy for every single vote we get! To make this more interesting for you, we offer some bonus art (usually small cartoons or sometimes photos) that will be displayed after you have voted for us.
Simple, huh? All it takes is 10 seconds of your time (depending on your internet connection though). We're listed at two comic related sites (Topwebcomics and Webcomicslist) and one aviation related voting site.

13. Can I link to your site?

Go ahead! No need to ask first! But please link to our main site and refrain from direct linking to any images. Check out our link page where you can find all sorts of banners and buttons you can use at the bottom of the page.

14. Do you want to swap links?

We want! If your site is remotely related to what we do and you consider yourself worthy, don't hesitate to contact us! Don't forget to provide us with some information about your site, if you want us to link back to you. In particular we need to know your URL, a short description of your site and where we can find banners (preferably 200x40 and 88x31 px in size).

15. I have problems viewing your site.

This site is provided as is. It is optimized for Internet Explorer, works okay with Mozilla Firefox and we've heard it's also looking good on Opera. We haven't tested it with other browsers, but we know that on some computers there are some display issues or it just looks completely messed up. Heaven knows why! We’re not professional web-designers. We tried our best, and we are aware that this site looks a bit different in every browser. But it’s impossible for us to consider every browser configuration out there. However, if you do spot mistakes or problems please tell us! And if you know how to fix it, please tell us as well! Also consider that any display problem could be the result of somebody just working on the site. So please wait a few minutes and try again, before you write us!

16. Why are you guys so cool?

Ah... This one we get asked a lot! We don’t know, we just can’t help it.
