Reading the archives: Nobu
« on: September 20, 2007, 08:48:25 PM »
Stef, I had a great laugh the other night when I re-read all the strips.

What send me cranking was the strips about nobu! A pottery artist named "Hyakou en"  ::rofl::. Today I also saw in the forum that you already had explained that "easter egg" so it wouldn't be any news for the coop.

Also is his name really Yakitori? I had it looked up and that was a great laugh too!

Teba wa saikou!!!!!
It's all Greek to me!

Thanks for the kudos!
(even though they were mostly directed to my brother)

Nobu turned out to be a character that's really well liked and he started to have his own fan-base.

Nobus real name is not Yakitori, of course. But it does start with a "y",  ;)

The real Nobu is a great guy and good friend of mine. We hired him as a contract pilot a few years back and now he's my new Director of Operations.
I am thinking of making him a patch for his flight-suit that shows his CW character.
He already has a picture of the chicken-Nobu on his locker in the office!  ;D

I don't know what that lastname means but it reminded me of a good old comic book called Yakari, that I think also existed in a animated version for morning tv.

Doesn't Stef also have a good friend by the name of Nobu? One he rocks with when he's in Tokyo? I think a picture of him and Stef jamming on stage is on the bio-page.

Yakitori means something like "fried chicken" in japanese!

funny, huh?!  ;)

i'll have my brother explain the details next time he is in here . . .

And yes, there is another Nobu. But obviously, the aviation Nobu is the model for our character  . . .

Good thing my pilot-future doesn't look promising then.

I think you gotta drink a little in this business. It's usually a social thing!  ;)

I wouldn't worry about it, Frank.

Ah! It's great that all those little Easter Eggs (Or is it "Eastern" eggs?) don't go unnoticed!  ;D

Yes Frank, a very close friend of mine is also called Nobu, so it was actually quite easy for Mike and me to come up with a name for the character!  ::cowboy::

Yes, you did, in fact!!  :) Are you studying Japanese?!

To be honest I am not sure how the word "teba" is used, if it's just the wings of chicken or if it refers to the food (I rather suspect the first). But it's actually the very sentence Chuck writes into the sky in our "Japanese Skywriter" joke!  ;D

But it IS the "Japanese Skywriter" joke! I wouldn't be able to make it up.

Not really studying, I just have some know-how and search tools because I like them.
