http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/04/27/mystery_object/Ok as we all know (at least this group) then UFO simply means unidentified flying object and not alien extraterrestial technology, but a 1 mile aircraft? That's wild, even for an airship! Interesting that a non-moving object is ignored by ATC radar, but what about before and after? Seriously though, a lot of sightings have been light etc. that people have mistaken as something solid but I don't know any further details about where it was seen to see if there was any other news. Btw, 1 mile object, also reminds me of the flying bases in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.
Btw, while on the subject of extra-terrestial life then I also just heard they've finally found an earth-like planet (size, temperature, day/night-rhythm etc. suitable for life to evolve) so we're one step further to see if there might be life elsehwere. So far the new planet is just known as Earth Version-2. Earth 2 anyone? When they first said that they'd found a earth-like planet and described it then I kind-of expected to hear it referred as a Class M planet
