Goal was to deliver a bomber 2,000 miles with a whopping 2,000 pound payload.
The counter rotating propellers could drive this beast 400 MPH.
Only two were produced and the original model was turned over to the National Air and Space Museum.
The first protype stayed pristine with nothing hanging from the wings.
This picture is the XB-42A (second prototype) where jet engines were mounted on the wings to test them.
