I have actually heard of these before this post. Way before 9/11, they still cost over $100k dollars, and went about as slow as a Cherokee. It's basically a fixed-wing helicopter.

We had one fly through our area a few months back.  If I recall correctly, it was a California PD rig for shootin speeders.

Sorry Fearless Leader I wont reveal my sources  ::whistle:: But you left some clues that helped me track it down. like the Stars and Bars on the rear and the USAF on the tail. I'll look out a toughie for the forum to guess. but knowing the other Aero Nut in here (Gil) he will get in a lot quicker time than I did lol.

What do you mean that I'm an aero nut? Just cause I have the remains of a Cessna Bobcat sittin my parents backyard, and engine for it on the driveway, airplane tires and parts in the basement, doesn't mean I'm an aircraft nut. It means....... well OK I am an aircraft nut. AIRPLANES ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't let Mom see that pic... she's probably flown that exact plane....

The plane in question is a converted Beech 18 (Why would they mess with near perfection?) Volpar did a few mods like tri gear (I don't mind that mod) single tail from a C-90 (Why?) fuselage stretch and turboprops (Just buy a Beech C-99)

That looks to be a stretch Volpar on straight floats and the C-90 tail. And they said the C-99 was what happened when you threw all the various King Air/Queen air/ Beech 18 parts into a box and shook it...
