I took Mrs Velo to the doc yesterday to do some bloodwork, and then we were supposed to head over to the hospital for an ultrasound
on her gall bladder.
Her doc took a look at her blood pressure (182/120) and called a specialist, who told us "Get thee to the hospital now. Do not pass GO, do not collect $200"
Her blood pressure spiked at the hospital at around 250/180 and she was sent to the O.R.
Turns out she had HELP syndrome, an advanced form of:
Pre-eclampsia may develop at varying times within pregnancy and its progress differs between patients; most cases present pre-term. It has no known cure apart from ending the pregnancy (induction of labor or abortion). It may also present up to 6 weeks post-partum. It is the most common dangerous complication of pregnancy, and it may affect both the mother and the fetus.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-eclampsiaAt around 1:26 pm yesterday, Zoe was taken by C-section and carted off to NICU for some really careful treatment. She's at 29 weeks, and a couple months premature, but began crying immediately when she was clear of mommy. She breathed on her own for about 14 hours before they put her on a ventilator to give her little lungs a rest.
Mrs Velo's blood pressure came down to normal after delivery, and she'll be in Labor & Delivery for a few more hours before they move her to a regular room.
Keep all yer appendages crossed, folks.
