Check Trade-a-plane, I'll bet you could pick up a kit that'd hardly been started dirt cheap.
One of the things that sold me on the BH Patrol was the flight report describing it's behavior doing loops, rolls, spins and Cuban 8's.  That's about as wild as I want to get, but sounds really fun.  And I'm almost done with step 1 in the building...preparing the shop.  ;)  Maybe next month I'll actually buy a sheet of aluminum and start cutting.  :o

I take it you have the tires already?  ;)

LOL, nope not even that...but Tamarack did just get in a shipment of 8.50x6's...so maybe I should... :P

The Bearhawk is still on my dream list, though I may go with the Patrol. We're already building the family wagon, so a 2 seater
would be a good thing.
That'll be a while, though.

hey, about the movie..  I went and blew a whopping $3.00 on it last night, and I liked it!  It is good entertainment... though I never would have considered seeing it if it wasn't based on a true story.  AOPA had an article on it..  you can see where the computer-clouds don't look so real, but it does have a lot of good action and a good story, and I'd buy old Jean Reno a biere any day, mes amis.   ;)

Entertainment aside, just think about those scared kids knowing their life expectancy was measured in weeks, not years, and what they did.  Aviation was a complete unknown, that killed a lot of pilots, but they took to the skies anyway.

It's worth seeing!   8)

I thought it was great!   Sure, there was some creative license taken and the addition of a romance to help with the movie's appeal for some audience draw, but it was very well done, and it was a pleasure to see a live action movie that spoke to the historic days of aviation and the challenges (not to mention extreme risk) that aviators faced back then.

I'd rate that movie four prop blades out of five!

Me, too.  I thought it was really neat when they showed the actual photo of the real guys at the end.  I just wish they would have left it there on the screen longer.  It's amazing to think of what they pulled off, with so little experience.

TM saves bills (get it?) by buying DVDs at deepdiscountdvd.com. Free shipping, discounted pricing. And yep, I'll be ordering my copy! I ordered Blue Max from them a few months ago... the DVD restoration is immaculate. The movie looks like it was filmed yesterday! More realistic flying, too, than FlyBoys, because they used real airplanes... though because they are real they lumber around like real airplanes and don't fly like Star Wars X-Wings like the CGI airplanes in FB (which I enjoyed anyway). Ooops... past the duck's bed/nest time.

P.S. The restoration of the new DVD release of Final Countdown is also amazing... it looks better now that it did when it was released in 1980 (make sure you get the Blue Underground version and not one of the orginal half-assed transfers).

Thanks for the hint!  I'll check that out.   :D

I am thrilled to start out 2007 as the proud owner of a DVD player, yup, you heard right, I'm just hurtling along at breakneck speed into the last century.  I've had a tiny little K-Mart television for the last 29 years, and it was so small that if I wanted to really SEE anything on it, I had to get out the binoculars.  It didn't do much for making movies sound too appealing!   ;D   But now, surprise, I have come into a TV that is bigger than a breadbox, so I finally got a DVD player.  And for a whopping $26 dollars, too!!

I'm so thrilled.  I just keep turning it on and off, on and off.  Pilot entertainment!!!!!     ;D

26 BUCKS!! ::eek::  For that kind of money it probably doesn't even have a little clock on the front (which would be flashing "1200" into the next century anyway)  :-\  Amazing how cheap they have become---we just replaced our first DVD player which cost as much as a new car and was a wind up model we bought before electricity was invented ;D

Get it for $19.98 at www.deepdiscountdvd.com. I've ordered tons of stuff from them over the years... they're not a fly by night operation or scam.
