Any RC pilot who can tell me how to take off with a RC/heli?
« on: August 27, 2006, 06:54:10 PM »
Mates,
my bro just bought a RC helicopter. The total time of flight has been 0,0000001 sec before crashing :( Any idea about how to flight it? The strange thing is that it doesn't come with a lot of instructions, so we have no idea how to, if there is any specific procedure...... :-\
thanks!
I give that landing a 9 . . . on the Richter scale.

shoot, i used to fly r/c planes but got tired of repairing them after almost every flight so i decided to learn fly the real thing.....you don't want any advice from me!  ::)

actually he can go to the hobby shop and get set up with lessons or go to an r/c airport and ask for help there....

I agree with Fred---Someone at an R/C airport can put you on a buddy box till you learn the basics |:)\

Mates, thanks for the advice! I  |:)\ |:)\ will tell my bro to ask to the shop and see where there is an R/C airport around here! It surely isn't as playing with a R/C car, and I presume we two had that idea in mind!!  :o :o

you probably have to take lessons with dual remote controls and stuff. I have seen it done.
I tried the RC Helo once and managed to stay in the air for about 20sec.
And I have some helicopter time.....

There are also some trainers (looks like training wheels...big poles sticking out the side) that keeps the helo from flipping over.

HELICOPTERS ARE NEVER "JUST A GAME" !!!!  >:(  >:(

...just kidding  ;D
there aren't any adults out there flying them..... hehe

Have I posted the video yet of the guy who bought a helicopter and thought he could fly it without taking lessons??
That's a pretty good one!

Hmm, I think I'll save the 200 DKK that a supermarket wanted for a R/C helicopter here and save up for a trip stateside for a real trip instead, actually I'm working heavily on getting my own place now so I need the money.

And I for one have seen the video of the person in the small white open cockpit helicopter several times, even before comming here, that man was insane, no excuse, not in that situation.

I'm surprised a helicopter pilot like yourself would crash a R/C one but I guess it's lack of seat-of-the-pants feel, one thing neither an R/C bird of a simulator can replicate.

Btw I've never heard of a dual-controller for R/C training, but my uncle, the one who died two weeks after we moved over to the island 3 doors down from him, had a R/C helicopter and he said he practiced with it tethered for a year before flying un-tethered and a guy bought it, for 40000 DKK, and he saw he took it to the beach and just flew straight out with it, and it disappeared.

That's exactly what it is! I think it's easier when you're sitting in it. The other problem I had is working the pedals
(Tail Rotor !) with my thumbs rather than my feet.
AND the control reversal when the helicopter is facing you. As soon as that happened....it was all over for me!

Frank, they are called "buddy boxes" and it's a cool way of flying dual on an R/C model ;) ;) ;)
