What!  Stop on the way back and let you steal some moose steaks?  After you didn't go along to help pack it out!  Yeah right!   ;)

Then again you will probably need the meat for winter :P

Hi and a delayed welcome to the forum, I've been a little busy to reply but better late than never I hope.

That is one heck of a fantastic home. Funny enough I've tried to make a similar design for a home but I didn't know that such a house actually existed  8)
The price however is even more fantastic. Here in Denmark the house-prices have exploded as well, but the country is so small that there aren't really much chance of finding a place without people nearby that'd complain about noise from a private landing strip (which is one of many reasons I want to move state-side).

Greetings

There are enough pilots and plane buffs in this state that runway proximity is considered a plus by most people. ;)

Ooh, hard to imagine an Alaskan (outside the city, anyway) ever EVER complaining about airplane noise... unless it's crashing through the living room or something of that nature.

"Five Four Romeo, turn left 030 for noise abatement."
"Approach, Five Four Romeo, I'm throttled down and I'm not makin' much noise."
"Five Four Romeo, you will when that Gulfstream catches up with you."

Ugh, it's late and I didn't remember it verbatim. You get the point.  ;D

Unlike the buuthead NIMBYs (Not In My Back Yard) we have to contend with in this wacky state of Kalifornia.  We've got folks locally that built million dollar houses close to the Healdsburg airport then campaigned the city to close said airport because it was a nuisance when in fact the airport has been there for over 50 years!  GRRRRR! >:(

I heard a similar story about apartments being built at a US airforce airport and they even signed documents confirming they knew it was noisy but they went into court and got it closed anyway. That is unbelievably rude and obnoxius behaviour in my book!  >:(  One thing is to be polite to the neighbours but this is insane and I would've refused any part of such a trial (if I lived in the buildings) and what's the state of the legal system if such a contract can be broken, and by civilans? At least I heard that there are plenty of open spaces in USA so as long as there's a nice little city nearby for shopping then it'd be cool to have 5 hours to the next one in any direction. My best friend Chey says that just outside of Stockton she can drive for hours without seeing a car or house there, I think it was in the easterns direction towards the foothills. I mainly want to move over there for the scenery and not for busy cities and shops and such since I can't handle the stress of that anyway, but no place in tiny compact DK to find a place to build a house away from busy highways where you can be sure there won't be a big vacation place built right next door or a new freeway or train-tracks thrue protected nature (all these things have happend in the last few years).

My best wishes for the northern people with good living and flying  |:)\

Gotta love the a-holes who fly around in jets, yet wouldn't THINK of allowing a noisy, dirty airport near their homes. The
folks who live near the 'port don't get a second thought when Mr. and Mrs. A-hole ride out in their Gulfstream.

Note: I love airplane noise, and wouldn't mind it at all... it's just the hypocrisy I don't like.

well, according to my friends that live out there the biggest problem is with too many people trying to use the runway.  The problem is they're not using planes.  There've been a lot of problems with people driving their 4x4 trucks, ATV's and snowmachines down the runway in the winter and tearing it up.  Typically achohol is involved.

I talked with a couple members of the runway commity last weekend and they're working on putting up a fence around it so you'd have to cross someone's yard to get on the runway after that.

Heh, you ought to post that summit webcam pic you got of the RV on the runway near Cantwell Tundra.....And I wish I could dig up that FAA pic of the C-119 (one of the 2 over in Palmer) that nearly clipped the idiots on the 4 wheeler after he cleared everyone off the runway...then lost power on 1 engine on takeoff....

Here it is.  I was planning flight down to Wasilla earlier this summer and pulled up the Summit airport weather cam.  As you can see there's an RV parked on the runway, and it's not the Vans type either.  I called Flight Services, they issued a NOTAM for "Vehicle on Runway" and called the State Troopers to have a chat with him.

Congratulations!  I'm Jealous!

Which airport is this?

As far as the RV on the runway...

That is from Savoonga on St. Lawrence Island.  Gravel runway, and that is a fourwheeler parked right next to it.  We are going to depart on the runway in the direction the camera is pointing.  You can see some runway end lights just to the left of the fourwheeler.  You know, the gravel runways sure look a lot nicer and smoother in pictures.  ;)

Havn't had any problems with them being in the way yet...

I agree with Happy, that's a fantastic place indeed, both the design but the location looks great too, also in terms of a nice view from the first floor windows, must be like a small airport tower 8)

The veiw is awsome!  I'm down at the "Cub" end of the runway that they keep grass, most of the runway is gravel, so I get to watch the guys with fat tires landing in my front yard. :D  It's been pretty busy this week, everyone's getting ready to go hunting this weekend.
