Early helos where piston engined Frank so AvGas 100LL would be used.

Great photo.
I kept trying to decide if it was a Bell H13 or a Bell 47g.
The biggest difference between the two is that the H13 was US Army and the 47G a civilian model.
I am stuck at this point.

I would say that was a Bell 47, Similar to a ex Army Air corps Bell 47 that I worked(and passed my Hanger Pilot (Heli) license) on while at uni.

Are there any real differences between the civilian and army versions? And do people still fly these, maybe as classic aircraft under civilian ownership?

Yup! Looks like a "MASH" Bell 47 to me.

I'll get back to you on the details (thinking G3 but must confirm)...

Think the Army Air Corps display team fly one with a couple of Lynx and a Westland Scout.
