Wow, fast replies. Hi guys!

I'm not mad at at the world, things just aren't going well. DK's new goverment is doing heavy reforms right now, and some of them will have serious financial consequences for me, just not sure in what way yet but it's comming within the next couple of months. I'm currently attempting to get back in shape, walking over 6 km's non-stop each morning and doing several excercises for strength training. I'm still however quite overweight and won't fit anything slimmer than a Cardinal (unless it's a very skinny pilot next to me or I'm alone).

Detached retina!? The lady who checked my eyes (with pupil dilating drops, nasty yellow stuff) didn't mention anything about anything wrong or anything that can be done. All she said was to come back if the blinking get worse. I wonder if that's why I need sun-glasses now, I didn't as a kid. Now I need them to avoid straining my eyes even when it's overcast (at least if with thin clouds). If I don't focus then my eyes often stop looking the same way (crosseyed?), it's not fun and the reason I don't dare fly.

Hope things improve for you soon.  I know how tough times can be, I just ended 9 months of unemployment/part time employment myself.

The signs of a detached retina are lots of floaters in your vision, and random flashes of light.  If you're seeing these two things then get another doctor to look at it.  The proceedure is to sort of tack weld it back in place with a lazer.  Sounds scary, but I've know a few people who've had it done and were in an out in an hour, with no vision loss.

YO!  FRANK!  Good to see you posting again, my friend.

I am happy to hear you are walking 6km per day.  Jeeze, I wish I could walk just 2km per day!  I just spent a week as a deckhand and cook on a commercial fishing boat that is owned by a client of mine, and I tore myself up so bad during that I am in danger of having a hip lock up again on me like it did four years ago.  Since I do not have health insurance, the cost of hip replacement surgery (at $60,000 USD) is prohibitive.  However, this does not prevent me from pursuing what I can do to further myself.

Let me give you two quotes of inspiration from General Colin Powell:

It can be done!

and

Eternal Optimism is a Force Multiplier.

No one ever advanced themselves by saying, "I Can't."  Also, no one ever advanced themselves by listening to others say, "You Can't."  Wipe those two phrases from your vocabulary, and continue pursuing your dream.

We all have our challenges.  What defines us is how we meet the challenges presented to us in our lives.  Take advantage of DK's medical system, and do what Tundra suggested to fix your detached retina.  Then figure out how you will go about finishing your flight training.

Good luck.  We're all pulling for you.

I'll try and find a new eye doctor asap.

Roost: I'd like to, but with my current income then even just a PPL will take me over 4 years and atm. I'm too overweight to get a medical if I remember the rules correctly.

If the issue is being overweight, Frank, keep walking the 6 km per day, try to accelerate by jogging, and practice as much as you can (it can sound absurd, but 5 minutes per day abdominals (different exercises) and 5 sets per day push-ups (as an example 10 20 10 20 10 or alike - you soon see that making 50 in a row without stopping is a game) are a body sculpting thing. drink a lot of water and eat mainly proteins (among the less expensive ones tofu and eggs). See if you can catch some information somewhere about the principles of the Dukan diet and go for it (after a medical advice!). When I started working in the office I had put on a lot of weight by eating trash food and with that diet, together with exercise, I soon lost more than ten kg in maybe 2 months. it now makes 3 years I do not put on a gram, eat normally (well, to tell the truth I always hated veggies and fruits and do without...), my blood parameters are more than perfect and keep practicing. Again, after medical advice, give it a try...

I give that landing a 9 . . . on the Richter scale.
