My aviation photos (image heavy!)
« on: November 23, 2011, 07:53:52 PM »
Since I was asked to show my photos, here are some of them. The quality may vary greatly since I modified many times my shooting and editing techniques. I'll split the thread in several "thematic" posts, the first dedicated to commercial airports.

My usual "hunting ground" is Linate airport, Milan's city airport. I call it "Home of the Mad Dog" since it is one of the few Italian airports where the MD-80 can still be seen.

The main company is Alitalia, but there are some other major European companies.

Since it's the commercial airport closest to Milan, there are many business jets and helicopters, especially during the Grand Prix of Italy (the Monza racetrack is only 10 kms away).

And sometimes there are nice surprises :D

When I want to take photos of "big guys", I go to Malpensa, Milan's intercontinental airport.

There are some enthusiasts organizations that allow us to enter in the tower for guided visits...

...or in the apron for special occasions, like the first A380 in Italy.

Malpensa was also the first European commercial destination of the 747-8:

Other airports where I've been are Orio al Serio, Milan's low-cost-carriers airport...

...and Genoa, an airport on the sea near Italy's most important port. There is often traffic related to cruise ships:

Obviously, I can't miss airshows... I'll refer many times to the RSV: it's an acronyim for Reparto Sperimentale Volo (Test Flight Wing), a wing of the Italian Air Force tasked with pushing the envelope of military aircraft (yes, they are the ones who make rolls with transport planes!)

Some shots from Frecce Tricolori's 50th Anniversary:
Croatian Air Force display team Krila Oluje (Wing of Storm):

Royal Jordanian Air Force's Royal Jordanian Falcons:

The new advanced trainer Aermacchi M.346 (of which the first prototype recently crashed returning from Dubai, both pilots ejected):

Spanish Air Force's Patrulla Aguila:

Swiss Air Force's Patrouille Suisse:

French Air Force's Patrouille de France:

RSV's Eurofighter Typhoon:

And, obviously, Italian Air Force's Frecce Tricolori:

Then one of the few good shots I could take at Fliegerschiessen Axalp 2010...

A small airshow in Venegono airport, where the Aermacchi factory is located, organized by the local flying club with RC planes...

..historic planes...

..autogyros...

...and general aviation planes.

Another airshow in Venegono, this time organized by Aermacchi.
Team Paramotoristi Audaci, the only paramotors team in Italy:

2 Cessna 172s of the local flying club:

RSV's C-27J Spartan:

An AW139 built in the nearby AgustaWestland factory:

The last airshow of the series is Jesolo Air Extreme, a big airshow held near Venice this june.
The flying circus atmosphere of the Twenties, with biplanes, radial engines and women on wings: Breitling Wingwalkers:

Again RSV's C-27J:

An Extra 300 flown by Italian aerobatic champion Francesco Fornabaio:

A SAR demo:

WeFly Team, an ultralight team composed of disabled pilots:

Pioneer Team, another ultralight team (yes... with flares!):

USAF Thunderbirds in their European tour:

Again RSV's Typhoon:

And, finally, Frecce Tricolori:

The last post is dedicated to miscellaneous photos...

General aviation planes:

Gliders:

Seaplanes:

A blimp (it was following the cycling tournament Giro d'Italia for road safety sensibilization, its sistership crashed killing its pilot in Germany few days after :( ):

The Prime Minister's plane (also known as "bunga bunga plane" due to recent events :D ):

And, last but not least, in flight photos!

Sorry for the long posts, but I couldn't decide what to show you :)
Thank you for watching!

The new advanced trainer Aermacchi M.346 (of which the first prototype recently crashed returning from Dubai, both pilots ejected):

Nooo, so that was the one then :(
I just came back from a 1 week stay in the UAE (mostly Abu Dhabi, spent one day in Dubai to visit but unfortunately after the airshow), and read about "an italian plane" going down in the local paper...

I love the looks of this pocket jet! Finally a two-seater that looks great :(
Wonder what has happened...

That aside, great pics!

Don't worry, I can wait 10 years for the "Chicken Wings 20th Anniversary Photo Contest" ;D

Yep, it was the first prototype, and also the one with the best livery:

I agree, I also hope it will be Frecce Tricolori's next plane!
BTW, the first Italian Air Force M.346 had to make a belly landing 2 weeks ago due to an hydraulic failure (the gear seems to have not locked down properly, so it partially retracted under the weight of the plane), so it is suspected that the Dubai crash may be hydraulic-related too.

OK, I prefer the red one ;D

Ouch, birth defects... hope it gets sorted soon!

Okay, okay... the L-39 could be the one exception indeed... as long as it's got a good livery  ;D
