Playing hangman with non aviators.
« on: February 07, 2011, 11:54:00 PM »
Is it wrong of me to throw around words such as dihedral and empennage during a game of hangman, just to confuse those who think they know everything?

What would have to be the most confusing, sounding, aviation terms you guys have come across?

Not if they're throwing around words like microfilament, adenosine triphosphate, dysteleological physicalism, and voronoi noise ;)
If the best they can think up is hippopotamus, then I think you're out of their league ... if even "aileron" confounds them, then ... well, use your judgment ;)

Wow, I just realised there are real words in aviation. I always taught we were speaking only with acronyms.

Hey, I can't do simple math either  :P And I'm a programmer! (What do you think we invented computers for? ;) )

I could add numbers like that, but it might take me a while... I think in pictures. Hey, maybe if I wrote it down first. Then again, there's this nifty website I found for practicing math, I might just get better at it. http://www.thatquiz.org/tq-1/

This might explain things... http://www.phdcomics.com/comics/archive.php?comicid=1356

Here's one I learned in structures class today.

End-fixity.

I'll double-check the spelling, but it is a term we learned today. Not so big and boisterous, but people will still wonder if it's really a word!
