Australian Air Force Pilot Makes Emergency Landing On Highway  |:)\
Wed, 07 Apr '10
A student pilot in the Australian Air Force made a forced landing on a highway in Hobart on the island of Tasmania Sunday. The 18-year-old pilot was uninjured, and reportedly immediately got out of the cockpit and directed traffic around the badly-damaged airplane.

Witnesses said the airplane's engine stalled while Patrick Humphry was practicing aerobatic maneuvers about 1000 local time. Several people saw the airplane circling overhead and called emergency services.

UPI reports that the aircraft came down on the road, reportedly one of the busiest on the island, sliding about 218 yards under an overpass before coming to a stop. One wing was torn off the airplane during the landing, and debris was scattered nearly 330 feet along the highway.

Australian aviation officials have not yet determined the cause of the accident.

Bit of info for you YanLú , the Airtourer is the civvy version of the Victa CT4 RAAF basic trainer, exceptionally capable for Aerobatics etc.  They are now being built by a Pacific Aerospace in New Zealand as the CT4/E.... I haven't had the pleasure of flying one yet .... BUT they are on my list to fly  ;D
