I agree with the piston engine theory.  I mean most jet engines are loud jet engines, but almost every piston engine engine has its own distinct sound.  Love the pics Mike,  wish I was there instead of in Panaca.  Looks like a lot of fun.

Panaca, huh?!
Now that's just great....(*sigh*)
Looks like I'll join you guys in a week.... :-\  :P

More cool airshow pics later !!  8)

Yep we're in Panaca already Mike.  A few of us are in Ely now for a class but 85A and the rest of the crew are in Panaca.  The good news is we are getting fires and we got francis to let us park on the ramp.  Don't know how long that will last though.  And fireflyr I totally agree about the gene pool down there.  Thats why we run thru town as quick as possible.  Anyway thats my spiel on Panaca, back to the cool airshow stuff and the great piston engines.  My favorite are the sweet whine of the Allisons in a P-38.
WOW I did that!

Here is another cool picture.
I made it look "vintage" on my picture program. Not bad huh?!
The plane has in German writing "Mutter Fokker" written on it.
Mutter stands for mother and in Germany all this means is "The Fokkers Mom"  ;)
In English....uhm....well ;D

GEE, that clears up things for me.  Today, while driving my concrete truck (winter job) I was apparently going too slow and a nice young lady in a car behind me yelled that I was the Fokkers mom as she passed, now how did she know I was a pilot? ???

Many years ago, in the mid-1970s, the museum's nonflyable B-17 wasn't surrounded by fences and minefields.  I used to go out there at dawn, just to sit under it and watch it emerge from the fog and darkness.  I could almost hear the thumbs and murmurs of a crew inside, doing all the BEFORE ENGINE START stuff.  As I'd drive away, I'd "hear" the theme music from "12 O'Clock High!" and imagine engines starting to taxi out and maybe not come back.

You DO know that the "12 O'Clock High!" TV series was filmed at Chino, right?

I didn't get to count them all but there were 2 B25's, a B-17, a Bearcat, a few P-51's, an F4-U1, F4-U4, P-38, Spitfire, Avenger, A-1, and more. It was AWESOME!! and what a sound ...
Plus I've never seen a P-38 fly in real life.
Good times, good times,....

Okay, so now you need to get to Oshkosh and to Reno.  During the military formation flyover at Airventure, the sky is literally filled with big iron.  And at Reno, well, NOTHING compares to the sound of half a dozen Unlimiteds low, turning left, and with everything open but the toolbox!

See you in Section 3!   ;D

Here is a fun pic. We got bored and Jorge who had the booth next door with the fancy scale custom models had one of his stands left over. We put our little promo balsa plane on it and made it look all fancy.

HAHA! You should have seen how many people walked over because they thought initially that there is something really fancy to see.... ;D

Hi Jorge, welcome to the forum. That's a really great Chuck-smile there  8) (meaning friendly, not that you're a bird-brain lol).

Jim: Ferrari V12's? Would one of those be a Daytona (365 GTB/4 or 365 GTS/4)? Does he have any Lambos or Shelbys as well?

Mike: Mutter Fokker ROFL!!! In Scandinavia we normally say Ur in front of a car or plane when it's the first one, although what a clock has to do with a vehicle that I don't know, it's a bit far out :D
