It's a good helo. Got similar engines to Mi-17, have somewhat the same useful weight, is faster and it's more "compact". Good for long line work.

Although it is easier to get parts and crew for the Mil, and the Mi-17 perform better in hot&high conditions (Helix was designed for sea level work), and there are available retrofits for Mi-17 using TV3-117VMA engines (1800kW giving more lift capability higher up).

In conclusion - Russian helicopters are cheap, powerful, rather expensive to operate, have limited life (5000h usually), and not very crashworthy. I personally would take KV-107 in that lift range.

I just dug out Flight Manual and weight and balance Ms Excel spread sheets for Ka-32A11BC. I can upload them if anyone want those.
