Airport Madness 2:  http://www.bigfuntown.com/Game-1355.html

The guy that built this has several other ATC games as well.  All highly addicting.  You are forewarned.

Glad you're liking the games.  The vectoring one is pretty accurate, at least the computer pilots never read back the headings/altitudes wrong.

A bit of trivia for you guys, on the right side of the keyboard, look at your number pad.  See how 1 2 3 are on the bottom and 7 8 9 are on the top?  In centers, our number pad is backwards, so 1 2 3 are on the top, and 7 8 9 are on the bottom.  Also, in tracons (approach/departure controls) their keyboard are not like a normal PC keyboard.  IE the top row of keys on your home PC is QWERTYUIOP etc all the way down.  In tracons, the keyboard goes in order of the letters and is square, here is a pic.

Hey, have you tried programming our new FM radios yet in your Huey yet? Have fun.. They are the same as ours---the NAT NPX136D-070.

Instead of using the standard button format of

1  2  3
4  5  6
7  8  9
*  0  #

They use:

1  2  3  4
5  6  7  8
9  0  *  #

Found out the hard way 2 days ago that I had misprogrammed a bunch of frequencies.

uhm.....yeah....  ::)

it does take me FOREVER to punch in the numbers on the new NATs...
always have to concentrate on finding the digits, but I can take my time on the ground since I don't have to hand off an aircraft from one sector to the next flying at 400kts...  ::whistle::

What do you need the number pad for in ATC?

We use the number pad for a lot of thing.  Primarily identifying aircraft.  Each flight has a unique 3 digit id number.  Take for instance you request a climb from 090 to 110 and your computer CID (computer id) is 123.  We would have to enter the computer message QZ 110 123 and that would tell the system you're now climbing to 110.

There are lots of different things we can do in the system, for instance you're on an airway and your told to maintain 090 until CHEEZ then climb and maintain 110.  We can enter AM 123 ALT 090/CHEEZ/110 and that would be in plain speak, "amend CID 123 altitude 090 until CHEEZ then climb and maintain 110". The system then will automatically reflect that when the target gets to CHEEZ.

Our data blocks can be moved around, however they are limited to 8 different positions, each position corresponds to a location of a key on the number pad as well as a length.  So if I were to type in 9/1 123 it would move it to position 9 and length 1 for CID 123.

I could go on for a long long time about how numbers are used, but we're using the number pad all day long.  Once you get used to it, it actually isn't that bad.  I just glad we dont have the ARTS keyboard, ours is normal!
