So mad I could Spit....
« on: July 25, 2009, 09:15:03 PM »
Mostly at myself...

As you know, I've been out of work for over a year. I recently scored a part time job playing in traffic (Work Zone safety flagger) and it helps. I've also been mostly without my own car since last September. It's hard to find work when you can't get to work.

I scraped together a little cash and bought a $400 junker that I could drive back in April and like I expected, it died a couple of weeks ago.

Back to scraping up money again...

I found a car I liked that should have done me well. Talked him down on the price, gave him $600 and then set it up so I could give him $300 the following week and then the last payment of $300 last night.

No problem.

Except for one thing. I am usually pretty good at picking used cars.... Usually.

I didn't look as close as I usually do and this time it bit me in the a$$. I tried to drive the car home this morning and lo and behold, one or both cylinder head gaskets are blown.

Since I gave the guy payments (Private sale too, not a dealer) he's already spent the money, except for $200 of the last $300 I gave him  ::banghead::

Here I am with a $1,200 car, that I can't drive and that will need between $900 and $1,500 to get on the road. A car that has a blue book value of about $2,000. Oh... since the head gasket's are blown, the car is still in his yard because, right now I'm too broke to afford the tow truck so I can even get it the six miles to my house...

Good thing there's no booze in the house and I ain't got the money to get any...  ::knockedout::

I just want to scream.

Legally, I think I'm out of luck. An as is sale. From a private individual = Me out a whole pile of money and no real recourse. If I try to sue him, I'll probably loose, be out court costs and still be behind the ball.

 Me-->  ::loony::

Aww, don't beat yourself up too badly, Brian!!

I've had so many junk cars / trucks / motorcycles that I can't even begin to fill up the thread with bad stories, but hey, it will work out!!   :P

I always carried duct tape and a note pad and a black magic marker, so I could write a BIG note for the cops not to ticket me when I would roll whatever piece of mechanical crap into the ditch, off the road, when they'd break down (HOW many dozens of times??).....  I'd hitch to the closest civilization and buy beer for whomever was game enough to help me do the tow, repair, whatever...  the cops never did have any of that rubbish towed...  but I bet they had some hearty laughs!!

Hang in there and remember to kick the car now and then, just wear good boots -- it'll make you feel better.    ;D

 ;D

Oh, no!  I can't imagine anyone hurting enough from 'Terminal Lack of Imagination' to want to go THERE.    ;D          ;D

Hmmm....    ::thinking::   Though......

I guess if they did, we could make it like one of those books you're supposed to keep on the back of the toilet....    :-\

We could call it "Super Duper Pooper Bloopers" or some such....................     ::silly::         ::loony::

 ::rofl::

Found another car.... Won't be mine until i cough up another $500 (being only partially employed sucks) and then I will be the proud (I actually mean it too) Owner of a very nice 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis.

True grandma mobile as it was owned by the grandmother of someone I'm acquainted with.  only 106,000 miles and always garaged and dealer maintained. All for $1,200.

Now if I can only sell the dang T-bird (Which I have in the yard now) for $500. Then I'd be happy. Or at least, happier.

Brian

Oh yeah... Pics... gotta have pics

The Mercury...

and the dead T-bird...

Speaking of cars. Sometimes ya just get lucky.

A small town an hour out of Little Rock has a little car dealer that was having trouble with locals not really knowing/trusting Saturns. No Saturn dealerships
in the area... and they had a really nice 08 Vue AWD V6 in metallic burnt orange (or whatever they call the color).
Mrs S checked out the value of the car on line and found it was worth over $20k retail, with 37000 miles.
She got it for 12,900, with a warranty.

Wow talk about good luck on your part spacer.

Good to hear you will soon be back on the road, I think I'd go crazy without a car.

Oh, we haven't been without. It's just that her car was really noisy and had few comforts. Also, the trade-in
value sucked horribly.

Now, we're kinda tossing around the idea of trading my little GMC Sonoma for something a bit bigger. I'd have
to go with at least a 3/4 ton diesel, something I could use to haul airplanes when needed, but still manageable
for local travel.
