Mostly at myself...
As you know, I've been out of work for over a year. I recently scored a part time job playing in traffic (Work Zone safety flagger) and it helps. I've also been mostly without my own car since last September. It's hard to find work when you can't get to work.
I scraped together a little cash and bought a $400 junker that I could drive back in April and like I expected, it died a couple of weeks ago.
Back to scraping up money again...
I found a car I liked that should have done me well. Talked him down on the price, gave him $600 and then set it up so I could give him $300 the following week and then the last payment of $300 last night.
No problem.
Except for one thing. I am usually pretty good at picking used cars.... Usually.
I didn't look as close as I usually do and this time it bit me in the a$$. I tried to drive the car home this morning and lo and behold, one or both cylinder head gaskets are blown.
Since I gave the guy payments (Private sale too, not a dealer) he's already spent the money, except for $200 of the last $300 I gave him

Here I am with a $1,200 car, that I can't drive and that will need between $900 and $1,500 to get on the road. A car that has a blue book value of about $2,000. Oh... since the head gasket's are blown, the car is still in his yard because, right now I'm too broke to afford the tow truck so I can even get it the six miles to my house...
Good thing there's no booze in the house and I ain't got the money to get any...

I just want to scream.
Legally, I think I'm out of luck. An as is sale. From a private individual = Me out a whole pile of money and no real recourse. If I try to sue him, I'll probably loose, be out court costs and still be behind the ball.
Me-->
