You can't ever have too much oil for a round engine airplane! As an old acquaintance of mine said of his round-engined bird, "If there ain't oil leaking out of it, there ain't any oil in it!" I gotta admit that has the ring of truth to it.

We had 2 Super Constellations parked in Camarillo for a long time. They were both flyable and both had 40GAL hopper tanks per engine (!) if I remember right. You don't think in quarts when you have an 18cyl round motor. It was great to see them start up!
The whole town was covered in blue smoke!!

One of the local cargo outfits runs a fleet of DC-6's and 3 C-47 Commando's, they order motor oil by the tank car and never worry about corrosion in the wings.
