Would you mind if I use: "All the noise but none of the speed" for ChickenWings somewhere down the line? That's pretty funny!

Mike, knock yourself out---That's just the best way I could describe the BT.   Justman Flying Service bought one in 1962 and put it on the line for dual only flights at 21 bucks an hour,  we would fly over Petaluma on Saturday mornings with the prop in fine pitch and people would come out to the airport in droves just to see what the hell all the racket was about.   Sounds like a T-6 snarling overhead but you're only moving about 120 MPH or so.

I can tell you what I have NOT flown so far:

I haven't flown my Long Ranger any closer to home today!!  :D HA HA  :D

I am stuck in Elk City, Oklahoma after departing just west of Little Rock, Arkansas. Made it about 2.5hrs closer but had to eventually give up because of severe weather. But I found an airport with a hangar and a nice hotel. Those things are important, you don't want to have a $600,000 aircraft sit outside in a Tornado with hail and stuff...
Maybe I'll have more luck tomorrow.
Had to make the NO-GO decision today although it'll delay me for almost a day.
(Let this be a lesson to you young guys in case you read this...)

ELK CITY!!!!

Talk about being in the armpit of nowhere.......... :-X

Oil patch company I used to fly for had a rental center there---I spent a few lonely nights in that hole! :'(

Elk City is one of those places caught by the "Blue Laws" (or used to be) in that part of the world.   Used to be, you couldn't go to a bar and just order a drink, You had to go to a state liquor store, buy a bottle which you would then take (unopened) to the bar where they would put your name on it and hold it for you.   If you wanted a drink, you would the pay the bar to pour YOUR liquor into a glass of whatever mix you wanted----weird HUH? ???  Feel free to ask for a drink of my Tanguery gin---yeah, fat chance it'll still be there.

Last time I was there, February 1983 I believe, It was like minus 8 degrees F with a 30 knot wind blowing and I had to tip the line guys 40 bucks to preheat my engines, one at a time-----I started the left one first and had to sit in an unheated airplane while they did the right one, like to froze my butt off !

no minus 8 degrees but the 30kts winds still seem to be here.
Tipped a guy 30 bucks to get my aircraft in a hangar...
..seems like times haven't changed much....

Ah so it was the MU-2, I've seen that a few times before and thought it looked interesting, I just googled it and found a picture of the gear and I can see the problem. It does sound interesting. Interesting about the Ercoupe and LOL at the stuntflying :D

Mike: My utmost respect for your decision to stay put instead of taking a great risk flying in bad weather  |:)\
I know that many times delays have consequences, but rushing and taking chances you're (any person not just you Mike) are not sure will be safe that can have even greater consequences, at least that's how I make decisions also when driving and I'm still crash-free.

But I did fantasize about it one time when Flying had a centerfold 195 and I was reading in bed and Mom walked in just then.........OOPS, I think I said too much.........

ND has those, too.  Not quite as bad as that, but you if you want to buy almost anything besides food or gas on Sunday, you have to wait until noon.  From what I understand, the Blue Laws used to be similar to what you described, though.  Until 2004, we didn't have a state lottery.  Lawmakers (and a majority of the public) didn't think the government should sponsor that kind of "sinful" activity, even though the Native tribes all have casinos and the state lost millions each year to MN, SD, and MT.

Another interesting law....Until just a few years ago, it was still legal to shoot an Indian from the back of a covered wagon, but only as long as he was a member of a "war party", which is three or more Native Americans in a group.  The law has since been repealed.

I can't believe I forgot this (or the fact I'm going to admit it on a public forum)...

But I ommited the beloved and much maligned Piper Tri-Pacer... ;D

I've got about 50 hours worth of 3 Pacer time in the logs.  |:)\

Tri-Pacer, lol that's a cute little thing, I think it was such one that the ATC gave my brother a ride in a short while before we got the Cardinal ride with the president of the flyingclub arranged (of course the ATC wasn't on duty when he gave my brother the quick ride). My brother said that besides being bumped around from the gusting winds then it was really narrow and my brother is really narrow and thin unlike me and he had to sit twisted to give shoudler-room to the pilot and there was agreement from all that I couldn't be able to sit in that plane as a passenger.

About the Trinidad then I always confuse that with a Commander when I drive by the parkinglot at Roskilde Airport which has one of the GA ramps right on the other side of the fence. It's especially the fastback low wing shape with the swooping rear sidewindows that trick me but at a standstill it's easy to tell them apart. The Commander is generally more muscular and besides the retractable gear that most Trinidad's don't have, at least not the ones in the fleet of the FBO's at EKRK then it has the mid-placed tail as opposed to the outsticking low tail of the Trinidad, like the Cardinal has compared to the Skylane/Skyhawk too come to think of it.

Mike did you ever find that log-book of sling-wings you've flown? Have you ever flown a Gazelle?

Sleek, you are correct about Tri Pacers being much maligned,   I've flown them at max gross, in and  out of some pretty small fields and found them to be a very capable and honest handling airplane.   I've got a friend (can you believe that?) who has an immaculately converted Tri to Pacer model with a 160 HP engine and it's not only beautiful but performs well too.   But even the stock Tri Pacers can be made to look good and don't need to take a backseat to anything else in it's class.   The flaps are an excercise of futility, I mean when you reduce power and slow them up, they come down like an anvil anyway!

OH, and btw Frank, I'm a pretty big ole boy myself and I've flown them with an equally big ole boy sitting next to me and although you might consider the seating somewhat close, it's workable. ;)
Ya'll ever get by this way, I'll try to arrange a ride for you.

Agreed...

The only thing the flaps are good for is banging up and down when the airplane is tied down in a tail-wind.

It's not for lack of wanting I'm not already in Calfornia. As long as my health can handle it then I wouldn't mind at all learning about planes besides Commanders and Cardinals. I'm interested in learning about different ways of building things and in aviation there are a lot more things to make for each vehicle so a lot of different gizmos to study. The Ercoupe sounds interesting too.

Sleek: Really funny note about the flaps flapping in the wind :D
I did thought those could be locked like the main controls?
