S.E.A.T, Fire Fighting and where to get started
« on: May 30, 2008, 10:33:06 PM »
So some of the regulars around these parts I've noticed are very much anchored in the aviation fire fighting community and I wanted to aim this at you guys in hope you may be able to point me in the right direction. Recently here in Lakeland, a Thrush came through on it's way to South America where it's being employed as a firefighting Single Engine Air Tanker. Something about this really grabbed my attention and in the last few days it's been the only thing on my mind, rarely letting me sleep. After doing a little research I found that Seat flying is growing in the states and I'm dieing to get my foot in the door but as of yet, the interwebs have yielded no real leads. SO, Mike, Soccer Mom and all the rest, who do I have to know, what do I have to do, where do I need to go  to fly airattack, or air borne firefighting operations? Where can I get trained? Is this something run by forestry departments or contracted through individual businesses? Assume I know absolutely nothing (which is dead on true) and want to learn as much as I possibly can about this, I'm fascinated.
