It appears the fighter pilot who shot down the famous writer / aviator in 1944 has been found at last.

Hmmm.... Interesting.... 

The article mentions a german engine being found with the wreckage.... maybe it was a mid-air.....

I loved reading Exupery when I was a young pilot. He was so passionate about flying and always saw the romantic side.
(We talked about the romance of aviation in another thread)
I can recommend "Night Flight" and "Wind, Sand, and Stars" by him !!!

It's kind of a difficult read though and no pictures.....
But maybe there will be a "Chicken Wings Version" of it one of these days . . . .

Yes, I love reading him, too.  I have a beat-up copy of "Airman's Odyssey", which has Night Flight, Wind Sand and Stars, and Flight to Arras all together.  It's one of those books that I am compelled to read and re-read, every so often.   

Right after this post, I heard on the radio that the Luftwaffe pilot was quoted as saying, that shooting down Saint-Exupery was "the greatest catastrophe of my life...  he was my idol."  Very strange, the twists of war.

ok ok i beg forgiveness    i grew up on the teachings of Captain W.E johns and the such like lol but i do intend to look up Antoine de saint-exupey

The other book we had visited about was "The Shepherd", by Frederick Forsyth.  He wrote it for his wife as a Christmas present.  It's about an RAF pilot trying to make it home to England, on Christmas Eve. 

It was a Christmas tradition between my dad and me..  every Christmas Eve, the CBC in Canada broadcasts a short version of the story, and we'd sit by his radio in the dark while the snow swirled deep against the windows, and listen to it.  I listen to it faithfully....

Ian, you won't be disappointed if you check out the Frenchman....  his writing is just beautiful.  Any book of his makes a perfect gift for a pilot, too.

 after doing a wiki search im going to see if i can find him in my local library. night flight looks like a good one to read and might look up the shepard by fredrick forsyth (thanks 'mom lol) who ever that bloke is doing the naration is brilliant
