Kinda interesting you posted this. I just watched a video about American Airlines in my management class. They were talking about how labor and management were getting along post 9/11.
One of the things addressed was their aircraft service shop and their turn around time of aircraft. I'm going to estimate numbers here cause i cant remember them exactly but by applying some systems theory and stream lining their bays/lines they reduced down time by something like 40%. Also they were spending tons of money on buying new tools that wore out, ie drill bits saws etc. AAL opened a new division devoted to retooling worn out tools, and refurbs their worn out stuff, and now saves something like 2 million a year by reusing old tools instead of buying new ones. Kinda crazy stuff.
