Title: Comic-Con 2007 Pictures
Post by: Stef on August 06, 2007, 05:37:18 PM
Hi folks! Mike and I are now both back to our daily routines and I finally found the time to flip though the photos and select a couple for you to show you what Comic-Con was like! Of course you'd have to have been there to really grasp the dimension and the spirit of this event! We were totally blown away by the amount of people and the sights to see! But here's a little glimpse...

This is us at our table on the first day, shortly before the con opened for preview night.

Amazing similarities... No, wait I'm not wearing a red hat!

This is a view from above. Can you spot our table? It's in the bottom on the right. This picture was taken right at the beginning of preview night. So imagine about 5 times as many people here on the other days. The floor was bout 10 times as big as the section you see here.

Bantha Pudu, Ho ho ho! Jabba was so kind to let us take a picture with him!

The San Diego division of the storm troopers. And a couple of TIE figher pilots. Didn't see and TIE fighter flybys though...

Pop culture fusion... An Elvis Storm Trooper!!

This guy had an awesome costume! Or was it a costume?!?!

We were interviewed by Justin and Tom from Comics Coast to Coast. Check out the podcast here: http://www.comicscoasttocoast.com/ (http://www.comicscoasttocoast.com/) (scroll down to "Episode 10 - ComicCon").

Some pirates. Doesn't the one guy look totally like Orlando Bloom?!

A lot of people asked for a sketch in their sketchbook. With some it was a real honor to be in one book with some really amazing artists!

A well-deserved beer (Orion from Okinawa) at a great Sushi place in the San Diego Gaslamp Quarters.

Chuck on his way home on the last day. Amazing how he never lost his bright smile!

WOW! Look at those beautiful women! Now that's what I'm talking about! Keep those supermodels in bikinis, those two red-head storm-troopers (or is that one in the front a jedi?) and that pirate-woman are beautiful  :o |:)\ ::bow:: Edit: After thinking about it then I think the lady in the foreground of the troopers could be cosplaying as Mara Jade, it fits with the outfit, lightsaber and hair. And that pirate-women's outfit is as beautiful as she is, why don't more women wear something elegant and detailed like that instead of those drab things they call fashion?

And with that over, it looks like you had some great fun there. Pirates, storm-troopers and a Elvis-Stormtrooper are regular features at these cons according to Jen Breeden and co. and it seems you didn't miss them there either :D That Predator outfit was fantastic as well btw! Although personally I also think that anyone with a good mood and spirit are nice and it sounds like there were a lot of those there :)

Did you meet many other webcomic artists? You should've arrived in Panaca Jane on the parking-lot that would've been funny  ::rofl:: or a Roost Air painted Chickenhawk (C172) :D
Ok, I just woke up after sleeping thrue what I think is a danish tropical-night (not under +20C the entire night) so I'm a bit weak from being baked so sorry for the sillyness, I just wanted to make up for lost time. All I saw today, err, yesterday was a An-2, Cirrus and Bell 222 at Odense Airport (the same Bell that landed at the hospital right next to the road me and my mom were driving on a few days ago, I heard the clapper and suddently just a few car-lengths there was Airwolf landing with the wheels down :D).

WOW! Look at those beautiful women!

Yes, there were lots of them! There were also lots of the other kind!  ::) And there were many where you had to look close to find out what it is! But that's part of the fun, especially with everybody running around in costumes.  ;D  I didn't even recognize half of the outfits anyway...

You should've arrived in Panaca Jane on the parking-lot that would've been funny  ::rofl:: or a Roost Air painted Chickenhawk (C172) :D

That would have been funny indeed! The parking lot was underneath the convention center!!  :o

Now when is Trade a Plane gonna start publishing you again?

I didn't know they stopped publishing us!  ::thinking::

LOL!! The other kind!!  :D :D I remember in high school, me being one of the cool kids  ::) I was in the school Star Trek Club. We went to several Trek Conventions. The Supervising teacher pointed out to me at the first one we went to:
"you notice there's no good looking girls here?"
Dude you're at a Star Trek convention. You know things are bad if you're going to a Trek convention to pick up chicks. Looks like you guys had better luck than we did. All those good looking ones.  ::drinking:: ::drinking::

HA HA!

Yeah, you could telll that a few of the kids at the convention WILL get their @$$es kicked again as soon as the next school day comes around. But here they were having a good time with friends who are just like them. So, that's a good thing I think.
I really enjoyed the wide array of different people walking around actually.

One interesting thing was that not a single one dressed up in costume stopped by at our booth. After a day we pretty much knew, if he/she was wearing a costume . . . they'll keep passing by our booth. Must be that they are interested in different things than chickens flying airplanes. Like my brother said, we didn't recognize half of the costumes, so it was a mutual thing I guess.

btw: Hey Rooster! What do you mean about TAP??
I still get checks from them and the last magazine I picked up had us in it...

Oops!  Sorry Mike.  Last time I picked up TAP I couldn't find your strip, so I just figured they had dropped you.  Glad to find out I was in error (again).

(...But, what can you expect from a stupid old truck driver???  Hehe.)  ::loony::

Plenty of beautiful women in San Diego, Frank.  If you go to the beach there, you first need to master "Pecker Control"!  Hehe.

"CONTROL"? HAH, Lord Pudly thinks for himself ::whistle::

WHADDUP CHICKENS!! I thought I'd update this spot to something sort of related. I just came back from a nerd convention in Toronto, where it was Sci-Fi, Comics (no Chickenwings though!! ::complaining: ) Anime, and horror. Not much into most of it, but I loved the Sci-Fi part. So I thought I'd post some pictures of the convention.

The first is not at the convention, but just experimenting with the camera. How can that not be one of the cutest pictures you ever did see? ::angel:: ::angel:: ::angel::

Sean Astin. Played some character in some movie series called "Bored of the Rings: The Two-Plus Hours" or something like that. Also played Rudy, and a Goonie, but I got him to autograph a Memphis Belle Movie poster where he played Rascal, the ball turret gunner. Was happy to start telling me  about the making of the movie as well.

Well it was that time of year again. I joined the largest group of Geeks, nerds, and virgins for the largest gathering of geeky stuff in the country. There were many guests, most of them nerdy:

Start off with my favourite, and for Brian as well. Ms Summer Glau aka the future Mrs. Gil  ;) . She plays in the Terminator TV series (I've never actually seen it), and played in the cancelled series, Firefly.

After I received my autograph from her, I shook her hand. She commented on "that I have a big hand." Yeah I really had to bite my tongue on that one!  ;) ;)  She looks so tall in FIREFLY, but she's really small.

Mr. Ernest Borgnine
(http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee295/flyboygil/THunder%20over%20Michigan%202010/DSCF0255.jpg)

Micheal Dorn, aka Mr Worf from Star Trek. I asked him if he still had his Sabre Jet. He says he sold it, but now wants to get back into military flying. He is now looking for another Sabre. MAKE UP YOU MIND, MAN!!!

Peter Mayhew, AKA CHEWBACCA. It think from Battlestar Galactica or something like that
(http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee295/flyboygil/THunder%20over%20Michigan%202010/DSCF0263.jpg)

The most decent shot I could get of ADAM WEST, as we weren't allowed to take pictures of him
(http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee295/flyboygil/THunder%20over%20Michigan%202010/DSCF0271.jpg)

The only decent shot I could get of JULIE NEWMAR, aka CATWOMAN from the original BATMAN. She ain't aging gracefully, is she?

The original BATMOBILE
(http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee295/flyboygil/THunder%20over%20Michigan%202010/DSCF0276.jpg)

You guys can't fool me. You're already humming the original BATMAN theme. You geeks!  ;) ;D ;D

Not a bad ANDORIAN (Although one can always hope!   ;)  )

A KLINGON
(http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee295/flyboygil/THunder%20over%20Michigan%202010/DSCF0278.jpg)

And finally the man himself, WILL I AM SHATNER, aka Luke Skywalker. Only $80 an autograph. And several thousand people lining up to get one (including one good looking CHICKENWINGS member  ::whistle:: ). He must just be thinking "GET A LIFE! CHA-CHING$$$!!!"

So that's my trip to Geekland. Next year, we'll see.

Comicon was a blast the time we went. I think it's kind of time to go again. We did learna lot and the people there are . . . . interesting . . . to say the least.  ;)
You can tell a lot of them will get their asses kicked as soon as they return to school  ::rofl::

But geeks and nerds are way more fun I found over the years!  |:)\

Kinda disappointed you had to pay money for an autograph from Luke Skywalker / William Shatner....
you would think this is free and comes as part of being a star  :-\

CHICKEN WINGS autographs are still free !! BTW!!  ::wave:: ::angel::
(except if you want them on a book or print but then again you wouldn't pay for the "autograph" part  ;) )

I'm going to try and get to Dragon Con in Atlanta next year (Labor day weekend here in the states) I have a bunch of friends who go every year. My Friend Chris finnaly got a picture of himself and Summer Glau this year.

I'm a member of the New England Browncoats (Firefly/Serenity fans) and the Browncoats always have a huge presence at Dragon Con. Some people fly, some drive or in Chris' case, he takes the train (Bussman's holiday, Chris is a conductor for a freight railroad)

I don't have the money this year but the newly established New England Comicon (In Boston) in October is hosting many Buffy the Vampire Slayer Cast members along with Burt Ward and Adam West...

I embrace my inner geek lol

Most of my friends are openly geek, but I'm not interested enough in an actor to pay them just to get them to sign some scrap of paper. If I had anything to do with them, I wouldn't mind making friends with them on terms outside of their work. Unless, of course, my job, for whatever reason, has me working with a celebrity and we just hit it off somehow. (Talking about airplanes? Harrison Ford, maybe.)

What? You have to pay them for autographs? That is.. I don't know... somehow pathetic. I mean, I understand that you have to get something out of it if you sit at a convetion table all day, but I thought it was just to interact with the fans etc., maybe sell books, keep the general interest up etc. How much do they charge for an autograph?

And finally the man himself, WILL I AM SHATNER, aka Luke Skywalker. Only $80 an autograph. And several thousand people lining up to get one (including one good looking CHICKENWINGS member  ::whistle:: ). He must just be thinking "GET A LIFE! CHA-CHING$$$!!!"

Most autographs are about $40. William Shatner charges the most. I usually only get bout 3 per year. That's alot of money. Being a trekkie I got Marina Sirtis, Ethan, and Nichelle this year. I just got pictures of the others. Last year it was Shatner, Koenig, and Summer. Yeah you can go through the money quickly. When I went in High school autographs were for free! Man times have changed.  :-[ :-[

Wow. Never seen that around here. I'd never pay for an autograph, IMO it defeats the whole idea of "relationship" and the pride you get from having someone you admire sign you a piece of paper to share his activity/passion. It's a short moment that is shared by people who have the same interest at different levels, not a supermarket... I'd really have no pride in having an autograph because I bought it. Has to be an incentive from the person to give a bit of himself, otherwise it has no value to me.
I work with someone who often gets to sign some - and I never could imagine the same kind of human exchange I see when he does if there was money involved.

Guess it's again one of those cultural differences - but as you say it wasn't that way before, it might just be plain business.

:(

I hope this was a typo!!  ;D

Yeah, I guess somebody who didn't give a crap just started it and then the bad habit spread. But on the other hand, if you have thousands of people line up if you charge, imagine how long the line would be if it was for free. And raking in a few grand just for signing... I see how that offer might be hard to turn down. Still, I think it looks like they're "taking advantage" of their fans.

But I just remembered that we charge five bucks extra if you order a book from our store signed.  :o  But at least I usually draw a little Chuck in there as well. For our big and long term fans we do it for free though! And we never charged for signing at a venture...

Okay, we're in the clear! I don't think we're admired!  ;D
