Title: There i was...
Post by: FlyingBlind on January 22, 2006, 10:44:04 PM
Well ,our engineers at the base managed to scrap together a old AN-1 airplane...literally scrap up...and we wanted to do a test flight..everyone HAD to wear a parachute....they had to...cause there was no telling what could happen. As i said before ,it was SCRAPPED together...the engine barely started...and we lost the landing gear on liftoff...we managed to climb to 500 meters until the engine jammed....No second decisions ,everyone just jumped out...that was fun as it was thrilling :)

Wow... I can imagine! :) But what would you have done if the engine had jammed at 50 feet?!?! :o

Good point Stef!
Where was this at? Couldn't have been in the states... Sounds pretty illegal to me. Was Chuck involved?

Yeah, though it's good to think about possible consequences of your actions, you'd miss a lot of fun in your life if you do it too much! However, I still think I wouldn't have gotten on that plane with you!! ;D

Okay...that's quite funny. It was the day before my PPL exam. I was to go flying with an instructor and do some things that went forgotten during the preparation. One actually was a simulated engine failure on the rwy, just after rotation. actually, i just had to apply brakes, maintain the center line put power off. nothing more... the point is that I was actually falling in love for the instructor (I usually went inside school finger crossed, hoping I was going to fly with him!). So...lined up, ready for departure. I should have rotated and then he would have taken the power off. The problem is that he was having his hand above mine on power. And well, I went off. And I forgot to rotate...and I would have even forgotten to take off if - at 85 (actually vr was 55 vx 65 vy 76 kt) - he said.........."actually......do you think you're going to take off someday?" ???. I just wanted to disappear!!!!! ;) ;) ;)

I would have been worried if you ever fell in love with him!!!! But, at least, I would not have been jealous!!!! ;D BTW, he did the same exercise with other students (and chicks as well...). they never forgot to take off!!!

It has nothing to do with aviation, but I just came back home from an evening out, and I saw one really curious (and sad actually) thing. I was walking with my friends on the road, and a couple was kissing. the kind of kiss you would see in a love story. Mates, as soon as they were over, the man made a 180 degrees and went away, fast paced, and the woman was crying!!!!! Since I was nowhere near a parking, or an airport or a train station, I would presume that he left the woman. but - hell - if it were the case, I'd like better to split via SMS!!! ;) ;D >:( ;D :D >:(

I had a girlfriend that broke up with me via e-mail. Not cool.

Not really, I agree with you. it happened to me via email, and confirmation came via SMS. but I'm quite sure I like these two option still more than a scene with an incredibly romantic kiss and and adieu 30 seconds after: the option looks too much tragic/comic to be held into account. >:( :(

wow...email..... that sucks!
Over the phone seems to be the best option then after reading all this. You can talk about it, argue, cry, but you don't have to do the heartbreaking "last kiss" or hug or whatever it shall be. I have broken up and got broken up with over the phone a lot. (pretty much every fire-season until 2 years ago since I am with a firefighter girlfriend now.....)

Email is better then the time I walked into a bar to see my girlfriend hanging all over my brother-in-law and having her announce to me and the whole bar that she "had been meaning to tell" me! >:( >:( Glad that's history---been married 20 years :) Wouldn't want to do the dating thing again, ever.

Wow, that way looks like a nightmare :( . it's never easy to split, but it seems that some people are good at creating the "all-but-comfy" atmosphere!

Well, it happened in the right place in one respect---they left and I got veeeery drunk on every one buying me drinks!! :-\ :-\

When people brake up with me and send me a SMS or E-mail, i ignore the e-mail, march to their house and demand that they say it to my face.Because i don't like SMSs or E-mail brakeups....they are STUPID and only show your cowardly nature.

He He ... ;D
That's something to keep in mind: If you must break up, do it in a bar so the broke-up-one can get drunk at least....

Exactly! The bar is your best friend, here, have another pint of beer ;)

Hehe! well, if we look this perspective, the bar is a good idea, okay. but not in front of everybody, not with everybody understanding/listening to what's going on......it would be too embarassing. >:( @ Flyingblind: I think yours is the right approach, I applaud your modus operandi: I currently think that it is surely the best thing to be done. But I'm not sure it's about cowardly nature, the fact of choosing the mail or the SMS. I assume it's just to avoid any rethinking and any tragic/comic scene as - for example - the one I had seen some weeks ago.

Heck - tragic scenes are fun! Adds more drama!

It has nothing to do with what we were discussing on this topic....but yesterday I went flying. I was so sorry not to have the camera with me, since I lent it to my brother, because it was a gorgeous flight and I've flewn over a lake (lago d'orta, italy) with an island within. the weather was sunny, some clouds here and there, a lot of relax and beautiful sceneries. A pity I had booked the plane for two hours only and I lost a lot of time in front of the new meteo briefing station, I'm not yet accustomed to ::) . I will surely repeat the flight, so that I can take some pics to post here.... :)

Its to bad you forgot your camera, because that place sounds beautiful! :) I bring my camera on every flight, but I never get any good pictures. There is always marks from the window and stuff like that, which ruins everything.. Any tips?
EDIT: I just saw this was an oold post, but I hope thats alright ::)

Fekke, no worries about it being an old post. I'm quite sure that, as soon as I go back to switzerland, I will go flying again on this track, since it was lovely. :) About your question....apart from the cleaning of the windows :) , one of the idea could be of switching the autozoom of the camera off, since it risks to zoom on the window instead of the outside. try otherwise the small hole (how the hell is it called?!?) on the CPT window (if there is). My picture are never beautiful, to be honest, I do not really look for an artistical snap, but a souvenir of the flight. and actually, if inside remains something specific, as a part of the cockpit or the pitot's tube or part of the wing, I'm even happier!

Ok, thanks for your help! I guess you mean auto-focus, and not zoom? Thanks anyway.
