Title: Skybus
Post by: undatc on May 23, 2007, 10:51:05 PM
Saw today on CNN that Skybus started ops in the US today. Offering several routes across the country for as little as 10 bucks. Another twist of the knife in the back of the trust fund.

Cant find a link on CNN to the story, here is a link to another one.

What's the catch/trick? And are they planning on flying from places closer to here? :D

There are no humans for the airline. From what I cought on CNN, there isn't even a phone number on their web site to call them. Its all web based. They make their money from charging you for extras, ie food, expedited baggage claim, etc etc. They are saving money by not flying into major airports where the landing fees are high, gas prices are jacked up, and rent in the terminal is really high. For instance they are flying into Bellingham, WA; which is about 70 miles north of Seattle (about 90 miles north of Seatac Airport).

Quite much of a typicall European low-cost/low-frills airline. Except those in Europe can not afford being THIS people-less operations.

The only difference between the Euopean versions, and the new US versions is that the EU companies arent putting a death grip on NPIAS money. Its the low cost carriers that have sucked the fund dry, and one of the reasons the new nextgen plan is worrying so many people.

This company charges for everything. You aren't supposed to bring food on the flights (like the movie theaters) and costs for food etc are the same or worse than at a theater ($10 for a sandwich, and that doesn't include a drink).
Even checking baggage is a fee (no allowance). You'll probobly end up paying as much on average as at another company.
Just another way to drive wages lower for pilots in the name of being "competitive."

"LOWER WAGES FOR PILOTS"? You mean people get PAID for flying? Gonna have to think about this ::thinking::
