It is a RARE DAY when the White Minivan (aka "The 3-Wheeler requiring the Girlie License" -- thanks Gibbo!) manages to PASS anyone in the friendly skies..... and I do mean RARE. In fact, it's on about the same occurrence scale as solar eclipses.
Today while inbound to the airport, we had traffic called out at our 3 o'clock and I was quite surprised to see we would be overtaking him. WOWEE, WOWEE!! OOOH OOOH!!
The tower controller, who happens to be a very cool guy who has a daughter who became a smokejumper last year, told us he was on a practice BC approach and we were told we had 30 knots on him -- [jump up in seat and repeat 'WOWEE' chorus over and over]. The controller then called us as traffic to him, and added "You're Number Two, follow the Twin Otter for Runway 28R." The HELICOPTER then replied: "Roger, we promise not to overtake the Otter!"
The tower guy burst out laughing and said "Ohh, good, Mary would never live it down if you did!"
ALL THESE YEARS!! WE FINALLY PASS SOMEBODY AND IT'S A................ CHOPPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ::rofl::

::rofl:: ::rofl:: ::rofl:: oh Mary I'm with you there, it's so rare that I overtake anyone as well, although that's generally due to me not exceeding the speed limit because it's set very well for the roads I drive on (meaning I agree that I shouldn't drive faster on those roads, sadly I'm about the only one, I only overtake anyone on freeways, and that's road-trains and only barely, and I never catch up to anyone on highways).
About the C-word then I'm sure Mike will let it slide this time :D

Hee hee hee, yeah, I guess even we get lucky sometimes! ;)
For all the Champs and 150's I have loved, I still have my slowest groundpeed in the Minivan.... of course, we were TRYING that day.... :P
And HEY G-Man, just because you rotorheads can show off and go backwards and all that fancy foofie-stuff, doesn't mean you have to TELL us mental midgets.... I don't doubt he was trying to make us feel better.... And, today, I got cleared (by the same funny guy) with: "Proceed direct to the Edwards Cineplex, traffic is a Cessna for the right, he's ahead of you, you're for the left..." so I asked "Do we really get to go to the movies?" and he said "Yeah, you got time..." HA HA... these guys are awesome..... :D
(And Frank, I just HAD to use the "C-word".... we'll see if Mike slips into the Super Coop on his weekend.... I hoep if he does, he has a cold gin-and-tonic in hand... I see Las Vegas has a forecast of 97 F for tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) ::wave::

Ah, I thought you wouldn't have made such a mistake unless it was on purpose, you're too skilled!
And about that photo, yes that's clearly edited, look at the dog-line that goes over the helicopter, it looks too "sharp" in contrast to the rest of the image. I'm sure there are other details too but that'll do.

G-man: Sorry, I don't think I was at my full sense at that time (I think I'd just woken up then, like I just have now from a nap), I did see the joke in it and I have indeed seen it elsewhere ages ago, but appearently reading atc's message I forgot it and though he meant it seriously.

Hi Chris! It's Boise tower.. they've always been great to us and I have been flying out of here for 18+ years now, on and off.... they're always professional, courteous and helpful..... it makes working out of here much nicer than it could be. :D

Went up with another pilot to check out a new alternator he'd just had put on his STOL equipped Cherokee Six 300 (I was along to help watch the gauges--and for the heck of it). We had a pretty good headwind and decided to see how slow we could go. Got it down to 28 mph groundspeed according to the DME ;) I'm PRETTY sure a Twin Otter could have passed us ::whistle::

LOL oh you've done it now, now Mary will put up a new form of air-racing ::rofl:: Simple rules: Fixed altitude, starting side-by-side, landing (stalling) is immediate disqualification, last one to preset point wins :D Gentlemen start your engines, uhm, that probably won't do here, especially not since gentlemen usually let ladies go first ::rofl::
