Is this little storyline going somewhere? :D

Interesting. In the english Pilot magazine this month the CW strip featured Chuck and Julio in the Skyhawk trying to taxi, with Chuck not remembering the chocks weren't removed. I thought Julio already put a new engine in it? At least I count 3 cylinder-domes on one side in a strip with Julio checking the engine in the second book, or does Roost Air have a Skylane too?

Could be an early 172 as well. Before 1969 Cessna was using a 6-cyl. 145 hp Continental instead of the 4-cyl. 150hp Lycoming.
Or, Stef decided to draw an extra cylinder in there. ;)

I think the Skyhawk needs a radial ;) Just think of it with an R-980!
That or he could put a NOS on the Lycoming! Though I do kinda like the idea of a supercharger sticking out of the top of the cowling though ::whistle::

There was another continental in later years as well putting out more horsepower than the lycomings... in addition to the IO-360s in the R172s putting up to 210hp.
We had one in one of our 172s at the flight school. Don't remember the specific model of it though... want to say P model but might be making that up... it's no longer registered under the former tail number (meaning it's either gone or more likely someone wanted a different one).

Woah! ::unbelieveable:: You guys are something else!
Chucks 172is a P-Model, and yes there is a plane with 6Cyl show in one of the strips in the book. But is it Roost-Air's? or does Julio work on customer aircraft as well? ? ? Oh, the mysteries . . .
btw Frank: We sometimes take a joke and make a few strips out of it. As long as they all seem funny to us. I guess we never encountered somebody who reads our strips in all available magazines because they are not always all getting the same strips.... ;) You're a true fan! ::bow:: cheers!

Thank you Mike, thank you both for one of the greatest comics in the world |:)\ According to what I got by reading thrue the books again today then the 172 is an 88 P-model, possibly with a Lycomming engine (Jason asks this when he first meets Julio) and 50 gallon usable tanks which according to Jason would make them the Long Range tanks, a factory option I guess. For someone who asks a lot of questions he sure seems to know a lot of it alrady, except instrument-practice, he should've chosen something else than a saxophone :D
Btw when Julio and Sally talk about magnetos and the right-hand side show 3 cylinders then the aircraft is a FG Cessna, all-white (the wheel-covers aren't shown so I couldn't check for the twin red stripes on them) however it is a black 2-bladed prop with two red stripes near (but not on) the edge and with a white spinner just like 3 Bravo Tango. I guess the 6-cylinder model would be the Piper since both the Twin Otter and 500 to my knowledge are gasturbine-powered.

Chuck doesn't need more power, just bigger tires! >:D A set of 29" bushwheels would ride over those little chocks like nothing. He wouldn't even feel them! ::drinking::

If any of you were familar with the anime Ranma 1/2 I'd post my "High Flight" fanfic. Has a "prim and proper" japanese girl learning to fly and getting in to a competition in an S-2S Pitts. A "Gold Digger" crossover. If you don't understand the previous couple of sentences please disregard :P
Oh, and Tundra, you can't copyright the image unless you are the PHOTOGRAPHER...Oh, wait...you DID take that pic.....I'll have to use one I took...darn it all! ::rambo::

I knew several animes, although sadly mostly it's just the kiddie-shows or the definately-not kiddie-shows that are most know but there are several others inbetween, some plain comedy ones, some dramas worthy of oscars. I wish there was an aviation-one like there are for cars, éX-Driver, Initial-D, Over Rev! (ok that last one is just a manga, comic) etc.
I think I know Ranma but haven't really seen more than trailers or screenshots, I'll take a look at AnimeNfo.com for specifics. Gold Digger is also a story right? I'm reading a lot of webcomics and a couple of them are running a long crossover at the moment, very interesting. Published comics (as some of the webcomics actually are as well) have made some april fools jokes where they've swapped strips to joke the readers, some were posted in the very long-running danish Beetle Bailey magazine, like Garfield visiting Blondie and eating his sandwhich :D
Edit: Ok I just checked, yes Ranma was what I thought it was, at least the base story. I also found Gold Digger but it was webcomic related (or at least it was I think).

You might have seen this week's strip, as well as the one that Frank mentioned in Trade A Plane!
@ Frank: Like Mike mentioned, it's almost impossible for us to control when which magazine will print which strip. We always send them some that haven't been published on our website yet, but a few months after that we quite often use one of these here.
Even if it might come to some of you as a shock, I have to be honest with you: Chicken Wings is not intended as a work of reference for aeronautical questions! It's a comic strip with chickens! Although we like to be conclusive and authentic, we shamelessly sacrifice logic and quite a lot of other things for a good laugh anytime! ;D
Oh, and as for the Roost Air fleet, as far as I know it consists of a Cessna 172, a Piper PA-23 Atztec, a de Havilland DHC-6 Twin Otter and a Hughes 500. I sometimes draw Chuck in a Pitts or an Extra, but that's only for some pictures where you have to be able to see his face.

It's not!? Wow I'm shocked, the drawings and details and terminology was so convincing! ::eek:: Seriously though, take it as a compliment, I know it's just a comic-strip and not something to be used for real flight-training (except as: what not to do ever ever ever!). It was just a relaxed good-natured talk since your drawings are really good at showing details, and not just planes too, the Follow Me Chuck suv was clearly a Toyota Land Cruiser and I think the car used for Need For Speed was inspired from a BMW Z3 (I wonder if Chuck and Julio boosted (stole) happy's Z3, I seem to remember it's even the same colour :D ).
So I hope to confirm what I'm sure you already knew, that it was just fun talks partly based on your excellent sense of detail, but no critique at all for not being authentic, ok? |:)\ ::wave::

Oh, and as for the Roost Air fleet, as far as I know it consists of ......a de Havilland DHC-6 Twin Otter...........
Shame on you! What are you saying? the right terminology is" A red plane that fits the colour scheme of the company!!" :)
ROFL!!!!!
For some reason I find this utterly HILARIOUS!!!! (BTW, Hilarious was a spelling word this week for my daughter...1 of 10...she got it right but TOTALLY mispelled "smile" as "smilliy"....got to love 7 year olds!) Hmmm...the only Red and White Cessna I ever flew was Niner-One Quebec....a 152. Now if you want to talk "Red and White" aircraft you must talk Super Cubs...there seems to be a law that they must ALL be red and white. Now J-3s...there is a law the must ALL be yellow. Heck, I watched a yellow J-3 nose over when I was in the pattern for 19L at ENA. I went over to shoot touch and go's (I was in flight training at the time) over at SXQ. Kinda bit...that was a CUTE J-3! Yes, Doctor, I'm ready for my pills now...... ;)

Ask Tundra about Super Cubs....and how they used to fly UNDER his pattern when he had his "Ultra-Light"..... ::whistle::....I mean Antares MA33. Standard pattern at Bradley was, what 1000' and Ultra Light pattern was what...500'....and the Cubs were UNDER him? Me, a Super Cub is too darn small.....too many trips to take in the wife, daughter, Cat and the gear the wife insists on. Heck, two guys, full fuel and a Keg is TECHNICALLY overloading a PA-18!

I fully remembered to remove the chocks and cowling plugs and put them in the trunk of the car once. As I started to taxi out after getting clearance I realized I'd left the trunk open ('boot' to those who speak real english) :-[ Had to tell ground there would be a slight delay as I shut down, closed the trunk, strapped the tundra toy back on and got going again. ::sweat::

One of my friends busted his MEI on preflight because he forgot to remove a cone that was in front of the plane. So it's expensive but I bet the guy that busted never forgets the chocks again(trying to be positive) ::banghead::

No, the car is there. I was just joking on the fact that you said they stole mine! But I'm using it almost zero, only if I've to go somewhere and I cannot walk or alternatively take the bus, in order to do my little to fight against global warming (at least I will not feel guilty next time I go flying!). Hehe! it sometimes happens that you get misunderstood on colours. I went to a shop to buy a dress for a wedding (I'm going to be witness) and when I was asked by the future bride (my cousin) what's the colour of it, I was able to say it was yellow and it's green in truth. I presume it's a kind of colour memory mishap...

There's a Beaver for sale that's supposed to be really really nice.... of course I hear he wants 300 for it ::eek::
Wait... does that fall under big and boring?
I havn't seen that Pitts... might have to swing by there... I really think a T-6 or T-28 would be a neat plane to own. High performance and a lot of fun with being fully aerobatic, plus you have dual seats to share the fun.
I did know a guy who owned a CJ-6a, he called it "a poor man's warbird." It's a Chinese trainer that is somewhat similiar to a yak. If you want a fully aerobatic aircraft than they are among the least expensive options. Really loud though... get a good headset!
http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1098917/M/
I got to fly a little in one from the back seat, we weren't able to do any aerobatics though. The first time he didn't have parachutes and the second time the weather closed in worse than forecast so we had to come back. Under an hour total, but was still a blast. Might be worth looking into if you really really want an aerobatic bird...

Beaver comes under Big and Impressive. But somehow I doubt the roll rate is anything to write home about. Remember, money doesn't make the world go around, Ailerons make the world go around! ::rofl::
Actually the good old little Pitts S-1 is about the best deal going in aerobatic planes. They're competitive in everything except unlimited and usually sell for under $25k. The one at tamarack is behind the blue parts building, the wings are hanging in the maintenance hangar. It's a 160hp S-1C, Here's the specs. http://www.steenaero.com/PittsS1/specifications.cfm

Baradium, if come by the EAA pancake breakfast on June 2, at the CAP hangar we usually get one of the local T-28's on display. And the owner really likes to talk about it. The C-1 COD is usually there too.

And yes, T-6's are a BLAST to fly ;D And the the EAA 1149 crew put on a great show--even at young eagle events. Granted, so far the one I attended all I did was shuffle kids to the float pond and back to the CAP hangar, but it was a blast. Got some great shots of 1903Z (That I took and Tundra CAN'T copyright ;) ) when Tundra took some kids aloft.
BTW, whoever can make it, the Alaska Aviation Expo is this weekend. Tundra and I intend to be there with the munchkin (my 7 year old daughter) on probably saturday. We'll be the the guys with the "Alaskan Aviators" hats. Or if Tundra has lost his I'll be wearing my leather "Alaska Bush Pilot' hat :P...Or Maybe I'll say to hell with it and show up as 'Safari" Bob ::rofl::

Still got mine! Keep it in the plane ;D

I really think a T-6 or T-28 would be a neat plane to own. High performance and a lot of fun with being fully aerobatic, plus you have dual seats to share the fun.
Baradium, if come by the EAA pancake breakfast on June 2, at the CAP hangar we usually get one of the local T-28's on display. And the owner really likes to talk about it. The C-1 COD is usually there too.

What's the time frame? Back in TN they had a fly in breakfast the second saturday of every month. Was kind of nice being able to go really often and talk, look at the planes etc.
If I get the line I want, I should have that saturday off and will try to make it regardless.

I'll have to double check myself, but typically we start serving pancakes at 8am, and start flying young eagles at 9, and typically run till noon. We've been combiniing the breakfast and young eagle the last couple years. Seems to work out well and gives the parents something to do too (stuff their faces and drink coffee). Also adds the thrill of knowing the kid you're taking for their first plane ride just had a big breakfast. ::sick:: ::rofl::
We've been adding a few hands on demos too. Like riveting, foam cutting and other aircraft building type stuff. Also giving one on one tours of the T-28 and C-1.

Speaking of the Young Eagle program, have you checked out the new FAA rules on those kind of flights and the drug testing requirements? Looks to me like "big brother" is being a bit too intrusive (if I read the rules right) >:(

The FAA ruled, and sent a formal letter to EAA stating that the Young Eagles flights don't fall under the new charitable flights rules since the pilots or owners don't recieve any compensation.
