Hahaha, nope he'd never get one, reason: That the thing that created the name "chopper"! (Named after the sound it and the base-Huey made with their twin-bladed rotors) ::rofl:: It does look cool though 8)

I'm biting my tongue here......
That machine has maybe an hour and a half endurance, TOPS, to go to a fire, which means... practically nothing of use. ???
And they spent a ton of dough on it in terms of avionics, electronics and FLIRs, etc.... Let's just say it is a lot more buck$ sitting there than you would ever guess.....
Okay I had better quit! Or I will be in trouble. :-X

Not a "Fling Wing" but probably a bit more practical for lead in work.....

The feds had these for a while and they were an incredible maintenance nightmare... they got rid of them... CDF (sate of Calif.) still uses them...
Dept. of State has them too if you want to get into one.. hear they are mtx hogs there as well though. OOps, there I go, getting into trouble again... :-X

Hey the Cobra shot was by a friend of mine taken at my home airport ramp at the FBO where I teach part time. How weird is that? ::thinking:: Didn't see that aircraft, though.

Hoping to get to OSH Sunday for the Weeks hangar tour and open cockpit day at the museum... and to bother my friends up there!

Been watching this take shape for 5 years-----Since I'm not a federal employee, I need not bite my tongue---that thing is just the wet dream of a former ANG Cobra pilot who is a USFS employee. The concept is impractical, the utility questionable, and the costs are astronomical. What an incredible waste of taxpayers money! But that's just my opinion ::complaining:

Thanks Jim, I was trying to figure out how to say wet dream without saying... wet dream. ;) It's quite the money-chest-on-skids. ::loony::
You're the best!!!!!! |:)\

I think that it looks cool nonetheless. When can I fuel it.

I am with mom, G-man, and especially Jim. As a tax-payer I am pretty pissed off I gotta say.
The DNR in Washington uses them as well and they also use them for buckets I believe. I heard the USFS only uses them as helco and airattack. ::banghead:: What a waste of money! It's sad.
As a helo pilot . . . OF COURSE I WANNA FLY IT!!! (I did hear though it flies like a Huey and therefore like a truck)
btw: Terry, you'd love this one as a fuelguy!! HA HA!! uses about 100/hr! lots of work for you!!!

Well, the Cobra looks cool, but I gotta admit that the first look I had at it, I thought "What the hell are they gonna do with THAT?!" The Bronco might be spendy to operate, and a maintenance nightmare, but they're built like a tank. I recommend to you folks a book called "A lonely kind of war" Written by Marshall Harrison. I can't speak to the Apache as the closest I've been to one is at an airshow ;)
However, the Bronco is one bad actor. And Panzerrat has posted the ULTIMATE book on flying the Bronco. "A Lonely Kind of War" is an excellent read. I almost got a ride in a Bronco as a CAP cadet, but didn't quite get the top score it required :)
