Title: Ferry Flying

Someone asked me today (still not sure if he's serious) if I'd be interested in ferrying an airplane for him. It's my own fault, he said he was going to be ferrying a plane and I mentioned that I was going outside (the state) as well because I'll have a few weeks off. Basically, a C-172M has to go from somewhere in North Carolina to Galena, Alaska.
I mentioned knowing many people who would jump at the chance for such a trip (all expenses paid cross country sightseeing flight?), but he said that the insurance company is requiring Alaska time since the trip is going up here...
Hmm, I nominate Phil! (tundra_flier)
I don't know if such a trip would count as "commercial flying" to count towards my time alottment for part 121/135 operations, but I'd have to check into that.
I'm leaning away from giving up my vacation to do something like that, but it's incredibly tempting to have a chance to see the country. ;)
Anyway, it amused me a bit that I got asked.

Yea, I have a friend that just bought a plane in Seattle (Port Angelas) and is flying it back here (GFK) thats almost to long in a 150.

Bring a buddy (or girl even !!) and go. It's a great opportunity to see the country and meet people. I have done several x/c flights like that. One with a TwinStar from Tamiami, FL all the way to LA, CA (that was the longest one) and NEVER regretted it! ..even the ones I have done more than once were cool....
Don't you get bored flying to the same airports up in AK ??

It's hard (for me) to get too bored flying a twin turboprop into narrow, ice covered, gravel runways, a number of which are surrounded by high terrain that you descend past and around. And that's just going into my normal run. I have one of the only two lines (they alternate) that are consistant, most guys do prefer different airports every day. And I still havn't gone into all of the airports our 1900s will go to (I do go to different places occasionally) and charters can send us anywhere. Even Anchorage can keep exciting. For the last few days the winds have been consistantly 20G40 kts on the ground with higher winds aloft down there.
Remember how big AK is... it's like I'm flying around half of the continental US on a regular basis. ;)
I'm still thinking about it. I'll at least get some info from him and see how serious he is and stipulations etc.

Hey Chicca, volunteer to ride along and you might convince me. :D ;D
Regarding Mike's comment on taking someone along, that's the only way I'd do it. In my opinion, dual pilot really is the way to go for long trips.

Ill take a week off school and come fly with ya! I got a SEL rating and about 58 hours in a warrior LOL

Thanks, but unfortunatly my leave time for this summer is already booked up. >:( But next year I'm planning to fly the tundra toy down to the lower 48 ::cowboy::

Well, I think the problem solved itself. He was taking off as we landed and landed as we took off so I didn't get a chance to get any contact info from him yesterday (we're too busy low to the ground so there was no trying to talk to him). I'm leaving tomorrow and today is just a couple Anchorage runs. My room mate might look into it and possibly do the trip. He's at least going to see if he can find any info while he's in that area this next week.
Phil, are you getting rid of the tundra toy or are you taking a long round trip?

No, I'm going to keep the tundra toy till I'm ready to buy the engine for my home built. Just want to make the long cross country, visit all the relatives and fly home.
