Title: What the hell is going on??
Post by: Mike on February 09, 2007, 03:55:26 AM
We are starting to see a trend here lately that kind of concerns us:

People start insulting eachother, being smartasses in the forum, and some of them completely pull out as soon as they get critizised for something...

WTF??  ::sulk:: I mean seriously !!!

Can't we all get along??  ::complaining:

I want to remind everybody that this forum was meant to be an ALTERNATIVE to the other aviation foums out there where this is already happening. We created this to have fun, be everything BUT serious, and for the younger people in this forum to learn a thing or two...

Please keep in mind that if somebody says something that doesn't agree with you is NOT a reason to quit right away !!!
There are other people who might still enjoy your company and input. And please be polite and nice to eachother. And if you're into this just to argue with people and be hurtful, join the AOPA forum instead. You'll get a lot more out of it that way.

Ok, .... got this of my chest.

Let's go back to the more funny topics like. . .  Chickens flying planes for example.....  ::wave:: ::rofl::

Thanks Mike,
I'd like to say I have enjoyed "meeting" everyone here in the Super-Coop, it is fun and I have learned a lot, and laughed even more.  I would miss anyone who slid off the roost and left...  that would be a bummer!!!  It's NICE to be able to just visit, and share stuff, especially after a long day of serious stuff.

Thanks to everyone out there.   :D

Well I can't say I saw this comming, although I did seem to misunderstand a non-negative post by SkyGal but that's been deleted it seems. Perhaps I've stepped over some feet when talking but that wasn't intended but in an effort to keep my posts short I may have clipped the part explaining my view further. On the subject of subjects for the forum threads and changing topics then I just followed the flow and kept observant if there was a problem or not but we can go back to aviation, I'm sure there are plenty of topics, I for instance have some airplane pictures for the Guess That ?? thread.

I've been told several times lately how much I act like my late dad and that was in a good way. One thing is that I automatically calm my nerves, although it may take a night's rest and that post with the attempted car-theft was less than an hour after we found it out and maybe it couldn't be understood I was in shock and not like that normally. Right now I'm sitting normally with calm nerves trying to look ahead in life although I don't know where it will go. With good rest (which we all need) then I can think good and calmly and won't think things are bad without clear evidence. Hmm, maybe this part of the post is un-needed but just in case someone read my shock-post without knowing the rest of my posts then it might help understanding.

To defend the people that left then they might not be quitters or hold a grudge but the exact opposite, they want to look at the nice things in life and won't waste time on negative things that will only make them negative. I'm still sad Jim and UNDATC left but I thank them for the time they spent here and the nice conversation and good information.

Frank

Before I rejoin your community, I felt the need to say a couple of things.

One, I apologize for my slight, emotional outburst a month or so ago.  In my short time on this rock, I have dealt with a lot of prejudice and harassment, and have gotten to the point where I have neither the time nor inclination to put up with people that feel the need to harass and insult people.  Because of that, I rushed to judgment, and cut my nose off despite my face.  I cut off a family sort to speak of people I had grown to care about, and missed.  As my mother says, “you can pick your nose, and you can pick your friends, but you can’t pick your family” or something like that.

Recent events in my life, I wont get into them, have made me realize the mistakes I had made, and once again apologize and ask your forgiveness.  If you’ll have me back, I promise to not cause too much of a ruckus, and to play nice.  We can even finger paint after recess.

Sorry bad joke, however, I look forward to becoming a part of your community once again.

Let me be the first to say "Welcome back"  ::wave::

I don't post all the time but I read the forum quite frequently and I am happy to see things getting resolved and people enjoying chickens flying airplanes (like mike says...)

Ha, it would seem our hockey season is almost over.  We haven't had much success since that Gopher incident...

We're doing ok.  We're alone in 4th since Saturday, and we can finish as high as 2nd (not likely, but possible).  We always seem to play well in the first round of the Final Five.  There's always hope!

I personally have dealth with a large amount of loss and bad fortune (most losses were my closest family members including my dad and all but one was from cancer, the last of heart-attack). I've had a lot of time where people said I was crazy, mentally unstable and lastly that I had something called Aspergers Syndrom but we've finally found out that I don't have a condition, I just work in different ways, the very ways that give me my good sides, one of which is to analyze situations so I can learn and improve, however with the constant loss and several bad events/shocks then my nerves are often ground down and then I can post shock events like with the break-in in the car which is one of the worst things after the family-losses that's ever happend to us and just when the car was sold in trade for a handicap car so we were afraid the deal would be annulled and we have no-one else to help us, that's the std. pattern, when something goes bad for us then it's a lot of things all at once. The last years time I've had some dealings with other people that have confirmed that it's not me that's weak but the events to our family that have been above averagely bad, that helps my self-esteem and understanding of life.

That being said, I don't know if I should apologise too since I can't remember/hadn't noticed what might've set this whole thing off, Jim also left besides UND and I simply can't remember if I might've had a hand in that. If I did then I'm sorry and will appreciate info on what it was so I can try and learn from it.

UND: I'm sorry you've had such bad fortune as well, but reaching the stage to ignore evil comments (as long as they don't pose a physical thread in which case the authorities should be contacted) that is a great achievement and something I try to live by as well, although I also understand that there can be misunderstanding due to different meaning of the same word or words spoken by a person not completely familiar with the used language.

In any case then it's nice that things are getting back to the positive again. For us there's still no news on when the papers are finished for the car, however we had to most incredible thing happend with regards to the home. After waiting almost since we moved over here two years ago then we got a new home offered that can suit us back in Odense, two doors down from our old place. If all things go well then we can move in in 1 month.

Note: I'm still a little tired from the last couple of days hectic investigations regarding the possible new home (we didn't think we could get a moving-loan at first but we did) so if something rings wrong/offensive what I've written then please ask for clarification first.

Frank

Thanks, in any case it's worth the cost to move over there, no matter if I can/have to move out soon so we're going to do it. The problem however is that 7 AM sunday morning my mom was rushed to the hospital due to severe heart-pain but me and Michael (my brother not Strasser) is working on the car and the home. He's a former truck-driver so he can easily and safely drive and pack the rental moving-truck (and I mean a real truck, not a pick-up or oversized van). From my mother called and asked me to use the emergency call system she's gotten and till she was in the hospital it took over 90 minutes thanks to being on an island. At least the island-doctor came over of course and the ambulance had a doctor on board and they were nice and qualified people doing their best but it's still a scary thought that if something happends that an ambulance can't cary equipment for then it'll take such a long time. And with my mom's bad health then that home we got offered is a must-have, no matter how much extra it'll cost then it's worth it no matter what might happend in the future.

My brother talked to her over the phone and she's conscious and of course only worried about me getting dinner and such but I drove to the island store and got a fresh frenchbread that lasted me all day so that was easy. She's too stubborn for her own sake :( With severe pains she tried to clean her room up before the doctor came  ::loony::

More news when available and thanks for your thoughts. I'm trying to take things calmly so I don't stress myself more than needed (since that ruins my concentration to take care of things). The lady who answered the call first also said I'd done all that I could do to help when they were there, including giving them her medicin-list, medicin, medical-history (what I could remember, it's sadly long and complicated).

Best wishes to your Mom for her speedy recovery.  It is a wonderful thing that you are able to help her out.  I hope she feels better.  And tell your brother hello from here in the Coop!

I know what you mean about parents being stubborn, oh goodness, I never saw anything like it when my parents were old and needed help.  My mom was so sweet and way more worried about the nurses being tired from their shifts than her own heart not working, that they even took me aside and asked me in disbelief "Is she ALWAYS like that?!?"  And, the volunteer guys who drove my dad more than once in the ambulance said he was their favorite patient, because he always made jokes -- they told me later that the most serious thing he ever said to them was "Jeez, you guys might want to take this thing in, I really think it could use some decent shocks."

But -- I think being stubborn is a wonderful trait in general, and really does help people persevere.  I hope she is feeling better!!!!!!   :)

Thanks for the good wishes. She's still in the hospital but seems fairly ok now, at least she's talking normally and doesn't seem tired, but she's comming out until friday at the earliest and she needs to get a heart-test done (the one with the thing stuck in a vein from the lower body and then pushed all the way up to the heart) and of course that requires us to go to a fourth hospital, this time the national hospital in Copenhagen, but I'm not driving her there since that's one bad place to get lost, and as some of you have now seen then all hell has broken loose between crazy youth's and a christian group that sadly now is starting to look like fanatics themselves (speaking more and more like a sect/cult).

We got the papers for the loan needed for the double-rent and the moving-costs etc. but something seems strange so they need to be read thrue before signing them, then the contract for the house still hasn't come yet and we're a little worried it was given to the other one despite a lower number and before we got the contract and have it signed and recieved then we're not canceling this place. Also still no news from the county about paying the cardealer for the new handicap car. My brother has been a great help already so far and at least I've been able to keep this place in an ok state and getting some ok food so during the circumstances things are still going forward.

Btw, I saw a RDAF Hercules the other day (at least I think it was, it was low, slow and the tail is easy to recognize).

Sigh, my mom was supposed to be able to come home friday however that morning she had another heart-attack so she won't be able to come home until monday at the earliest. The bank-loan figures for the moving-loan have been explained (they just combined it with the car-loan) however still no news about the car and we have to wait until monday to get some necessary paperwork done to get the house that's still in the open.

Frank,
Sorry to hear about your mom's setback.  That can be a bit discouraging, but the good side is, she is where she has the best, and immediate, care available, which is good.  We will keep her in our thoughts, and hope that she is feeling better soon.
Take care of yourself, and get some rest.

Thank you. She is indeed in the best of care and that is the only thing relaxing me at the moment, however she didn't come home yesterday, she's been having pain again and wednesday she's being transferred to the Copenhagen national hospital (Rigshospitalet) for the planned check on her heart to find out what's wrong and that'll take three days. We got the bank-papers sent yesterday as well as the contract but no news on the car yet. I still won't rest easy until we get the letter confirming my mom as the tennant and when I can pick-up the Lancer.

From days with near-freezing temperatures and grey skies then it was sunny and almost cooking here yesterday (+15C), just a shame it's hard for me to relax when I need to constantly try to guess when I need to drive to make it to the ferry, it's hard to judge traffic levels. Plus, the 206 isn't that stable in side-winds unlike the Lancer so it's not much fun to drive in this weather. I'd still love to have flown a bit though, and I did hear some piston-props over the usual turboprop regional-planes and occasional jets flying over here.

We're still keeping the propeller in the water as my dad said, or as Stef would say: keeping the blue side up, it's just not fun when a ton of important things happend all at once with a very short deadline and the people you talk to are really hard to understand/get anything out of it. Still trying to relax though, it must be a genetic thing from my dad that I keep on trying to get over setbacks and try to smile at life.

Man, I completely forgot this, sorry. My mom came home satruday evening. It seems she's got a heart-valve problem and that can lead to heart-cramps so she got some new medicin. The new home is secured but the new car is starting to be on shaky ground since the dealer has alreayd confirmed we need to pay more since our car has now lost value and he wouldn't completely rule out annuling the deal if the county wouldn't soon pay up.

Welcome back! And thanks for the thoughts. My mom is home (still on this tiny island) and the only big worry is when we can move to the new place in Odense where we don't have to wait for a ferry for even the smallest trip (a ferry that's undergoing service now monday-thursday only leaving a very expensive cable-ferry on the other end of the island landing far away from the nearest main town). Then there's the matter of the county-sponsored car for my mom which still hasn't been paid for in 4 months and our car in trade has lost a lot of money over that time, especially with new rebates just voted in for low-emission cars with a lot of safety equipment so our cheap car is in the loosing end. At least then the two years over here have made me realise/learn a lot about life and myself so after we move it's either CPL, programmer or bust for me. I've found a chance in life and I want it, just as soon as I know my mom has better chance of getting help, here I'm the only one for her and that's a major pressure even if I want to help, I found that out when I had to live alone the two weeks and I could take or the place easily and keep everything I need in check, because I knew my mom had the best care possible in the hospital (after she was stabilised of course).

Glad to have you back online, it's nice to see good people return. I also saw Roland online yesterday, I wonder if he's back from the middle-east now?

Greetings
Frank

Thanks, Frank!   And I'm glad to hear that your mom is doing better, even if the situation isn't ideal right now, at least she's out of hospital and all, so that's got to be a huge plus.   The rest of it will work out I'm sure.   One thing I know for sure is that the highest priority one can have in life is family above all else.

See you on the board!   Keep us posted on the progress my friend!

Thanks for the warm welcome back to the coop Mike and Happylanding, and to others that have likewise extended me greetings :)

It's good to be back!  I can't tell you how frustrating it was indeed to be incommunicado with everyone!   Computer problem hit at a really bad time too since I had been laid off work... hard to justify the money for a new computer without job prospects.    Fortunately, both computer, and job situation have been resolved  ;D

Only bad part is that since I was laid off from work at Boeing, my new workplace, while interesting, isn't quite as fun... but it pays the bills.   And you never know what may happen in the future.   Good news is that I still have tons of friends there, so I still can get the scoop on things :)

Thanks, SoccerMom :)

Mike, yeah, they got a contract change for the project I was on when the USMC went with a different vendor for the software they were using, and there was no other work in the area for my expertise with them.   It was a thirteen year run there for me all as a contractor, so I guess I can' complain too much.   When I started with them (when it was still McDonnell-Douglas before the Boeing merger) they had 29,000 people employed in the area with them.   Now it's down to about 10,500 and no new programs to speak of, though I did hear that there is a possible extension of the F-15 and C-17 programs.   That wouldn't have affected me though.

I worked on a system called SARA there, which is short for Squadron Asssistance / Risk Assessment.   It was the last one I worked on with them there, and was the one that is being shut down since the USMC went with a program called M-SHARP to do what SARA does.   Unfortunately, M_SHARP is made by a firm out in California, so no new software changes or anything was needed or desired.  There used to be a lot more info on SARA on the Boeing website, but it's pretty sparse now.  By the end of September this year the one last guy on it will either be retired, or find another job, but he may not have luck either.   In my time there I worked on the F/A-18 E/F program as well as many others, with SARA being the last one.   Hopefully, I'll get the chance to work there again.   We shall see.

My new job is also a contracting job.   I'm under contract with a different firm to an engineering company that makes die press parts for pill manufacturing.   They make the machine parts that do the tablet compression for them.   I'm working on improving their barcode system within their business.  They make stuff for just about anything that needs to create a pill.  Automotive industry, candy manufacturers like PEZ, pharmacology production, etc.   Interesting stuff that I never thought about before, but not as much fun as the aerospace side, admittedly.  But, it's paying the bills again :)

Lockheed maybe?

Thanks, Baradium :)    I had thought of that, and a few others, but not in a position to move unless the job really paid well and the salary would offset the cost of living change enough.    But, who knows... maybe if this current job doesn't work out :)

I don't know where else Lockheed does stuff, but I know the Atlanta area isn't exactly the most expensive in the nation...

Never know unless you try?

Very true!   I'll have to look into it!  :)   It sure would be nice to be back in the aerospace line again! :)
