Title: How to spend time in the off-season
Post by: TWEEK on November 22, 2006, 12:35:59 AM
Hi all--

I have been an adjunct party to the adventures of Panaca Jane for several years now, and before that I slid with mikey on good 'ol 352....So, since I am in the fire business, I suddenly find myself with a lack of things to do.  I've been playing alot of poker (won a tourney at the Pinion plaza today and finished second at the Carson Nugget) and working on a book.  I was just wondering what everyone else does with their down-time and curious if their activities were comparable to my hobbies.

Hey Tweek!

I just bought a boat! That will keep me busy for many weeks to come. One of our other pilots (and a few SEAT pilots I know) are also into boating. Although, if you're still living up in the Carson area.... oh wait! Lake Tahoe! Duh!

Oh, and another thing I do lots of in the off season:   Chicken Wings !  ! ! ! !!!!!  :D ;) ;D

Oh yeah!

I almost forgot about my 2 months "vacation" in Panaca!

Sun, sun, sun,... every day. Lots of sand (although no beaches)
And the bars and restaurants are amazing there!!
Some of the girls even have teeth!!!

Good times, good times!  ;D

HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!

I was innocently drinking a coke while reading this thread, and you just made it come out my nose!  LUXURY RESORT???  PANACA???

Oh, that was GOOD.   :D   :D

Hey, Mikey....  I don't think those were the local girls.   ;)

But, Shirley, I JEST...  Nevada was very, very, very good to me this season -- I can only hope to be so lucky next year, too.  It's still the only place I've ever found where you can staff an 8,000-acre fire with 8 people, and they CATCH it.   ;)   ;)   ;)

Hmmm...  maybe you could do a write-up for a travel magazine, Mikey --- the "hot spots" you have come to know so well!!!!!!!   ;)

Come on Mikey, Panaca great.  We had a perfect littler swimming hole.  And having a room with no window was easy to fall asleep in (waking up was different story) plus Pioche looks better on the painted windows anyway.  And water who needs watr when you rolloing hills of sagebrush and grass. ;D

Yeah I remember, they really know how to pair the wine with the cuisine in that place ;) but the only time I saw a complete set of teeth there was wnen a schoolbus with 32 kids stopped by...................Hanksville was the only other place I saw a smaller gene pool, well, it really wasn't a gene POOL---more like like a bathtub :-\
Hanksville is 2 fillin' stations, a motel, a combination steak house/laundromat/RVpark, and of course Hanksville intercontiental airport |:)\

8000 acres with 8 lawndarts is nothing.....we caught a 20,000 acre fire with 20 down on the sheep refuge.  If unsatisfied with the gene pool in the panaca area, you can always go to caliente and find gals with plenty of teeth.  You have to pick them out young, though, because most of them are married by the time they turn 14.  ;D

The gene pools (AND bathtubs!!) in some of those towns are pretty small, I'll admit.  But...  the town I came from was SO small, and SO, uh, CLOSE, that kids in school had the SAME NAMES and the teacher had to call them #1 or #2..  I kid you not.  I mean, even the same middle name....   :-\

Jim, I LOVED the description of needing 32 kids to get a full set of teeth -- HA!!!!  That's PERFECT.  Too funny!!!!!   ;D   ;D   ;D

Hmmmm, You know Mary, I HAVE been to Highgate ya know LMAO. If you know the gene pool is shallow in Franklin County..... Try Lamoile or Caladonia....

Ha ha, yeah, it's really something.  We used to laugh so hard when we were kids...  there was the time when a neighbor brought one of his friends up there for a visit, and while walking through town (to give his visitor a good FEEL for the "ambiance"), they ran into a local who gasped at the handsome outsider and said, in shock, "WOW!  Nice teeth!"

That was just one of many funny stories...  I was (and still AM) so thankful that we were always pushed to see beyond the town limits.....

And, yes, I do love it there, still.   :-*
