Title: Interesting picture..One for Oddball

13 June 1944: An English brewery donates a sizable amount of fresh beer for the troops fighting in Normandy and a unique delivery method is created, strapping kegs to the underwings of Spitfires being shipped to forward airfields. Flying at 12 000 feet chills the brew to perfection

Would you believe that I've heard and seen that before? Heard that it was for the Squadron since hey had run out. But it's a good one |:)\

Gotta do what you gotta do! If they had to deliver the beer like that (Spitfire Ale I'm sure it's called), can you imagine how desperately it was needed?! If they didn't get it, we could've lost the war!

Well, they've tried mail (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missile_mail) but it was considered "too expensive". Beer might have been worth it, though. Anyway, this reminds me of a story I've heard from a former Phantom pilot. A couple of Phantoms, usually stationed somewhere in northern Germany were in Bavaria for some reason or another (maybe it has to do with beer, who knows?). Before heading back north, they decided to bring back some fresh Leberkäs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leberk%C3%A4se). Usually, it is hard to get in the north for logistic reasons, but Germany gets pretty small when you have a jet fighter. All was well until they encountered Phantoms form a rival squadron en route and engaged in some friendly dogfighting. That day it was found out that a) g-forces turn Leberkäs into something rather liquid b) Phantom Phixers don't like it when you force them to remove Leberkäs-residue form their aircraft. Beer would probably never so something that cruel to mechanics . . .
