I just went out and bought half-life 2 and am installing it as i type. the game is FIVE CD's!! i loved half-life 1 granted the add-ons kinda were a dissapointment. but if anyone had played it let me know what you thought....anyway, thought i'd start a gaming thread and see how things went......

Not much of a gamer now, but at college there were a lot of long nights of halo2.  Oh and lots of beer to.

Hm, it seems that most people in here would only play flight simulators!  ;)
As for me, I don't really play that much either... Never felt the urge to actually spend money on a console or a PC game for many years. The games that got me addicted when I was younger were Tetris (on my Gameboy), Sim City, Airline (a really really old PC game where you have to manage your own airline), Master of Orion, Civilization and Age of Empires... So you can tell that I'm more of a strategy type. (insert smiley with a general's hat).

I've been a personal computer gamer for decades!
Starting from a C64 over a Amiga500, 2000 and 1200 (which I still have) and from 1998 a PC with Windows 98 (which I still have, and at the time it was one fast thing, as is my current one I built in december).

Early Breadbox-games (nick-name for the C64 due to it's shape) include Pipeline, Pit Stop, Pole Position, Miami Vice etc.
Amiga-games: F/A-18 Interceptor (fightsim historians will really know this one!), Flight of the Intruder (and this one, I got a special edition with the original book included), The Secret of the Monkey Island! Classic!!! I love early LucasGames (now LucasArts) adventures, Monkey Island II, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, then some car-games, Super Cars, Jaguar XJ220, Lotus Esprit Turbo Challange, James Pond II: Robocod, Premiere, Lemmings etc. etc.

PC-Games:
Classic adventure-games: Monkey Island 3: The Curse of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 4: Escape from Monkey Island, Syberia,
Action-adventures: Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, Blade Runner, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Star Wars: Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast, Star Wars Jedi Academy, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1+2
Flight-sims: Terminal Reality Fly!, Terminal Reality Fly! II, MS FS2000 Professional Edition, MS FS2002 Professional Edition, MS FS2004 A Century of Flight
Action-games: Deus Ex 1+2, Star Trek: Elite Force 1+2, No One Lives Forever 1+2, Grand Theft Auto III+Vice City + San Andreas Note: I'd prefer the games without violence, I actually play them to finish the missions so I can walk, drive and fly around and listen to the in-game radio :D
Space-games: Freelancer, Starlancer, Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance, Freespace 1+2.Carsims: rFactor, F1 Challange, Grand Prix Legends
Cargames: Midtown Madness 1+2, Every Need For Speed game from NFSII SE to now although the older ones were better, that Fast'n'Furious street-race with head-on traffic colissions just isn't fun for me, the last one, Most Wanted even less so. the 5th game, exclusively with Porsches, made with Porsche AG, was a gem and had a giant online community with online races and racer-clans, of course there are bad seeds in all things but generally there were many gentlemen and lady-racers with good maners and the talks in the online pits were sometimes as fun as the racing, and that says a lot!

NOTE: All pc-games above were bought in stores with my own money (before that I mostly got my games from my dad when my mom wasn't watching over the money :D ), no pirate-versions or cracked versions. Can you see how much you can get instead of smoking alchohol and drinking tobacco? :D

Hmm, I think I've forgotten several but that should answer your question, and maybe raise a few new ones :D

Oh yeah I almost forgot, I got Halo with the Xbox I bought a few years ago, I'm not good at it and normally use god-mode cheats since I dislike dying, it's kind-of too close to home you know and besides I'm more interested in the story than how to kill a guy/monster. I actually bought the Xbox for Midtown Madness 3 and the sequal to Crimson Skies for the PC, ah yes I forgot that one. Sadly both of these seuqals were very bad, Crimson Skies 2 especially!!!

If you have a PC and like flying and awesome atmosphere then get Crimson Skies for the PC, it's an older game but the quality and flight-dynamics and storyline and actors are fantastic! The Xbox-only sequal was awfull!!!! Generic arcadish flight-handling, totally nuts floating power-ups, generic 3D animation for every cut-scene instead of the fantastic atmosphere of the 2D system in the original and most of the original crew's voicecast was gone as well their characters :(

Wow... It's way too early to be picturing a steaming bowl of spittle tobacco... as a matter of fact, regardless of what time it is, it's too early for that!!!   :-X (kinda looks like a pre-puke face?)
Oh, and be careful when smoking alcohol I think I just burned off an eyebrow!

ANYWAY, back to the subject at hand...

I am mainly a PC a gamer, but I've been known to pick up an xbox controller or two.
There are too many games to even list here, but maybe 90% of Frank's PC games plus a few he didn't say.

Favorites I'm playing now... I've been feeling a bit nostalgic lately, I've reinstalled Empire Earth, Quake III (cause I can't fine my Unreal Tournament CD's), and Halo.
My newer games include NFS Underground 2 and MSFS Century of Flight. (Which BTW Flight Simulator X is coming soon... MS claims "2006 holiday season", which means November... but it is MS Software, so that could mean as late as June 2007...)

Speaking of MSFS, I've been addicted to that game since my 386 16MHz 1Mb RAM and FS3!!!

Half Life was cool, I never got into HL2... Sounds like I may have to check it out.

Hello Frank!! I was thinking about one question, actually! Have you ever tried any Amiga (1500 or 2000) emulator, to play the old games in your pc? If yes, how did it work?
Some years ago there was a fantastic page www.mame.dk where you could find atari, c64, gameboy, amiga and alikes emulator plus a lot of games: they closed it for (C) infringiment issues  :(   I could never ever find anything similar. but it would be interesting to play the old games again......

Okay my friends, I will catch some sleep now! Take care and good night!  :D :D :D

oh and BTW if anyone is interested in a action/thriller game i HIGHLY recommend half-life 2!! the game of the year edition comes with HL-1 as well. and i recommend playing it first but......anyway i spent WAY too many hours on it this weekend. there are critters in there that give me the CREEPS every time they attack me. the game is cool, they had a sci-fi guy write a story and they built the game around that....verrrrrry cool!!

You HAVE to swallow the whole darn thing at once to quench the flame, I always did double shots because less didn't flame enough and more was too hard to swallow in one gulp---and you tilt your head back so as not incinerate your eyebrows!!! ;)

:o oh my! Seriously, did anyone get seriously hurt? What kind of a schmuck develops such a thing that isn't at least put out before drinking it? (Look at Ford Fairline Rock and Roll Detective with Andrew Dice Clay to see another one).

Btw, about the sissy scream, I think there was a female in the group so that might be the sissy, maybe  ;)

About the drinking/smoking then I made a booboo and I don't mean Yogi's smarter sidekick, I had them mixed up and I wrote the first part wrong but then I thought, why not and I continued in that line, I'm sure you understood what I meant with the chance as well of having an extra giggle  to keep the mood good :D

Has anyone tried the PC-game Crimson Skies? It's one heck of a great flight-oriented action-adventure game!

FRANK!!!
AAARRRGGGHHH!!! I just downloaded the demo of Crimson Skies! ONLY 2 missions! What a tease!!!

Seems very fun! Looks like I'll have to grab this one too... I might have to run to Best Buy and with a few gift cards I received at Christmas, pick up this and HL2. I know I'll find it cheaper online... but that whole instant gratification thing... And I guess with the gift cards, it won't be cheaper online.

I could probably find it through "special" channels and not pay a dime. But I'm getting tired of waiting for the DL, making sure the file I DL is really what it says it is, and free from bad things. Then finding the crack and/or serial... I've got Chicken Wings comics to read! LOL

Fantastic atmosphere eh? :D I think the flightmodel is really good for a realistic but sort-of easy to use flight-game, only the rechargable boost is unrealistic, the rest seems pretty real. I also absolutely love the idea of a flying base, and after finding out that zepellins are actually partially hollow on the inside and there have been smaller ones with planes attached then it doesn't seem that far-fetched after all does it, unlike the Iron Vulture from Disney's Tale Spin.

The original release also had the manual designed like a period aviation magazine with faked but realistic ads fitting the alternative world, not sure if the budget-re-release has that intact.
On the site there were also stories from the magazines mentioned in the manual and game with extra background on the characters in the game like Paladin Blake, Black Swan etc. Just adding even more oozing atmosphere from the golden age of flying!

And that just makes it a crying bloody shame that the Xbox-only Crimson Skies sequal had absolutely everything that was good in the original deleted/ruined: realism, characters, menus, flight-model, custom-plane maker etc.

At least we still have the original game to play over from time to time :)

I haven't had time to run out to pick it up yet, but the Demo must be set to easy. I bounced off a mountian a couple times and no BOOM... it took a 300mph nose plant to crash  ;D

The flight dynamics in the demo are "arcade" style, no MSFS here...  even set to Hardest I ran into a bomber and didn't die. But with the story line attached it seems fun! (like I said with just 2 missions it's hard to give a full review of the game.

I love the 40's style news head lines when the mission is over. And the dame* over the radio is a cool touch.

*I mean no disrespect to the females here... but that is really the only way to describe her voice and attitude  ;D

looks like i'm going to have to download the demo for crimson.....hmmmmm. oh, and callisto, RUN don't walk, RRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNN to the store and get HL2 if you havn't already. i'm at a point where it's a civil war against the "bad overlord" and it just keeps getting better and better. one gripe though is that it's almost too easy to figure out what you have to do. that or i'm just used to the way valve does their programming, albeit with some delightfull surprises!

plthijnx - I know, I know!!! I've been to 2 Best Buys and haven't found HL2!?!?!?!?! They both had plenty of the add on Episode 1. I may have to resort to ordering it online. I just haven't had much time these days.

I did find Crimson Skies... VERY FUN!!! If you want a realistic flight model... MSFS... but this is a BLAST to play. Lots of dog fighting. I keep dying in the 6th or 7th mission, which is annoying me... but it's a fun game. I recommend picking up a copy!!!
Thanks Frank!

Last night I was unwinding from the fireworks so I decided to load it up again. Well I left off right after you take that air boat and crash into stuff (that's not really part of the game, but that was the way I got through it  ;D) )

Well last night I entered the first (of I can only imagine many more) SCARY town. So I'm walking around killing alien zombies at night. Well soon I started running out of ammo. Well I can deal with jumpy alien zombies with a shot gun... but things get creepy with only a crowbar and that zero point energy gun. I had to stop when I got to the church and started to follow the father around... it was dark... and there were a lot of explosions outside that freaked me out. I'm already on edge with the weird noises from the game, I don't need extra ambient noises making things worse...   :o  :o  :o

Tomb Raider Legend was only released this april, I think it'll be a while before a new one comes out.

Tomorrow I hope to recieve DarkStar One in the mail, a space-game with more than usual depth and story atmosphere, at least that's what I felt from the demo and it's kind-of flying innnit? ("innit" is english slang for "isn't it").

huh. hadn't heard of that. where was the glitch?

In Follow Freeman there was a section on building tops... a Strider was supposed to blow up a wall, but there was no Strider. And the baddies kept respawning I ran out of ammo... So I loaded a few saves back and it worked fine. Just I spent a day and a half (not straight) at this one spot. Talk about frustrating, I broke down and looked up a walkthrough.

For the life of me I cannot find the Gravity Gun Only Walkthrough! Stupid internet... too much info  ;D
But basically once you get the grav gun that's all you use. There were a few exceptions where a bullet is needed to shoot a trigger... but basically that was it. I'll have to try that. But in the mean time... I'm addicted to Death Match. I haven't played a Death Match game since Unreal Tournament a few years ago... MAN IS IT FUN!
