Post by: TheSoccerMom on July 19, 2011, 11:32:48 PM
Hey Mike, I hope you have a blast at OSH -- I know you will!! Are you going to meet up with Turbo-Duck?? ::drinking:: :D
If you have a chance, please look around for this gorgeous Lockheed. I'm pretty sure she is on the way there. And, please, go up to the pilot and ask him if his name is CAPTAIN KIRK (which it is).... he's a super guy!! Have much-O fun!! ::wave:: ::drinking:: ;D

WOW! ::unbelieveable::
Cool airplane! Yes, I'll look for it! And yes, Turbo and I are supposed to meet at some point at OSH. Two aviation authors and CW characters at the same place at OSH..... I see possible trouble!
Anybody from in here going to OSH ??

Bzzzzzzz... HUH? Whuzat? Did I hear my name mentioned?
Oh... Well, it may well be a showcase plane that gets parked near the Vintage area... I would guess. If not it'll be parked in the Vintage area. It depends on what else is aviailable for display, and/or when who gets where first. Also as planes come and go those on more prominant display can swap in and out. But Vintage area for sure, I should think. Usually they put the larger ones in the area between the runway and Wittman Road. See http://airventure.org/images/av11_visitormap.jpg.
Leaving for OSH on Sat. Hope to see you all there... and don't forget to buy books from aviation authors ;D

Or are you talking about the P-38? That will likely be on display on Connoco Philips Plaza (aka Aeroshell Square) or I should think in the main display area down in Warbirds at the north end of the field. I doubt it'll get put in the regular warbird parking area!

Hey Mike, found this thread today. My brother, Mike, lives near there. He flies one of the Lear fleet for Allstate Insurance, and rebuilds bi-planes. His family live in one of those " Landing Strip" communities somewhere near Osh Kosh.
My bro's name is Michael Devroy. Very anal guy, ::whistle:: He wears SansABelt slacks and drinks Vodka with Kool-Aid. ::drinking:: A great pilot, though. Perhaps you will bump into him. He looks alot like William Shatner (the old, fat version) hee, hee, hee

Still keeping an eye in the sky for PJ - sigh...

It was great to meet you in person! Happy to see that you had lots of interest in the Author's Corner... CW is very popular! Hope you can do it again next year... and this time for the whole week.

Ok, so this was my first day. You can tell I was a little confused. Gave myself 2.5hrs to get to the show and then to the first book signing but I made it there with only 3 minutes to spare. It is crazy how big this show is.

When I arrived and started setting up, the first of you already stopped by. My shirt is still all sweaty from running 3 miles trying to get from "brown lot" to the EAA warehouse.
But then a line started quickly.
Even the press arrived. On the left is Milford from "Flight Time Radio" (www.flighttimeradio.com (http://www.flighttimeradio.com)) and on the right is Grant from "Plane Crazy Down Under" (www.planecrazydownunder.com (http://www.planecrazydownunder.com))

of course the first thing I had to do when I got a break was to find Corsairs!
Still can't get over how big they are!

Sweet photos, Jim!
And, wow! That Corsair *is* huge! I guess I will have to consider these proportions with the next strip with the Corsair in it. I always draw it much smaller...
And looks like I really should try to make it next time!!

I'm in Winnemucca now with Panaca Jane and we're busier than a one-armed paper hanger with the crabs!
Finally huh?

The airshow is only a small part of what goes on at AirVenture every day... 2 hours out of what is a 19 hour or so day for seven days... here's a small sample of the small sample from this year...

See more of you next year!

F-18 with a cool old-school NAVY paintjob on it! They used it for the heritage flight and it was awesome to see!

"Chuck, is that you?" ;D
F-16 overshot the runway by a few feet. Looks like the Airforce Spec landing gear isn't all that sturdy (wonder if a NAVY plane could drive in the grass) .....

Burt Rutan stopped by our booth and I got all excited that he knows Chicken Wings. |:)\ |:)\
.... but then it turned out he didn't and was just asking for directions. :-\
But we introduced him later when he was signing his new book. Got one of his books signed and one of our books signed by him. It was a great honor to meet him!

Then we got to hang out with Martin Leeuwis. He is probably the biggest Aviation Humor writer in the business and a great influence and mentor. His new book just came out and we will have it in our store shortly.

On Saturday I got interviewed by the EAA museums "Timeless Voices". We'll see how much they cut out since my voice does have an Austrian accent and also uses cuss-words here and there (accidentally).
We will post the whole interview on the website when it's edited.

....then Chuck and I ran into Sergej Sikorsky, the oldest son of Igor Sikorsky!
Those of you who have been around helicopters and know a little about the history will know how big of a deal this was for both Chuck and I. It turns out he is a Chicken Wings fan and he drew a picture for me in my book. (he's a great artist too btw!) I already thought that was the high light of my evening but then he ended staying for a drink and we got to hear stories about his dad and about the time he met Howard Hughes and Ginger Rogers and more...... Forget Bristol Palin! --> This guy needs to write a book about his life! Such great stories!
Just awesome!

This one here is kind of a mystery to me. I thought we just had a thread about her crashing and the pilot bailing out . . . ???
How many "Big Beautiful Dolls" are there?

Those damn Marsupials are breeding!! what a way to spoil a plane like a Sea Fury like that ::whistle:: Must be a few "Big Beautiful Dolls" out there Mike think . There is one in the American Air Power Hall at Duxford, the one that crashed last month again at Duxford, the one you saw at Oshkosh can't remember if the R.A.F museum at Hendon has one .
