Title: I'm Back!
Post by: tundra_flier on April 08, 2011, 03:15:58 AM
::wave:: Hi All. Been a heck of a year gone by. So here's the reader's digest version. Oct 2009 got married, was hell starting at the honeymoon. Never used to believe the stories of women suddenly becoming bitches after the wedding. ::rambo::
June 2010, the wife finally left for the lower 48. >:D
July 2010, Got a bunch of bad news on my 150's annual, short version was that it needed about $12k+ in work, including 4 new cylinders due to a change continental made right about the time I had my engine rebuilt in 2001. ::complaining:
August 2010 I sold the 150 as it was to an A&P student and used the money to buy the Challenger II was building for a friend. The owner had lost interest in the project some years ago due to medical issues.
Sept 2010 Wife agreed to a divorce. ::bow::
October 2010, Finshed the Challenger and got the airworthyness certificate.
November 2010, perfomed th first flight of the challenger. Then mounted it on skis and flew it home. See it on Youtube on my channel Phil1671.
Feb 2011 I got layed off.
March 2011 I got a new job as a field engineer on the North Slpe. I'm making about 50% more money and working 4 weeks on and 2 weeks off, so lots of time off. So I'm writing this on my laptop sitting in my room of a Prudhoe bay man camp.
So hows that for news. :)
Phil

Welcome back....for helicopters you can substitute airplanes:
17 Reasons why it is easier to live with a helicopter than a woman -
1) Helicopters usually kill you quickly - a woman takes her time.
2) Helicopters can be turned on by a flick of a switch.
3) Helicopters don't get mad if you do a "touch and go."
4) Helicopters don't object to a preflight inspection.
5) Helicopters come with manuals to explain their operation.
6) Helicopters have strict weight and balance limitations.
7) Helicopters can be flown any time of the month.
8) Helicopters don't come with in-laws.
9) Helicopters don't care about how many other helicopters you've flown before.
10) Helicopters and pilots both arrive at the same time.
11) Helicopters don't mind if you look at other helicopters.
12) Helicopters don't mind if you buy "helicopter" magazines.
13) Helicopters expect to be tied down.
14) Helicopters don't comment on your driving skills.
15) Helicopters don't whine unless something is really wrong.
16) A helicopters attitude is easier to adjust!!!
17) However, when helicopters go quiet, just like women, it's usually not good.

Don't have many pics of the new plane posted on line yet, but I've shot a few video's that are up on Youtube. Just search for Phil1671. I'm still flying off the test time, down to the last 3 hours though. So soon I'll have some videos of different places and landing strips. Looks like I'll be off for the Valdez fly in and STOL competition this year, but doubt I'll be able to get the plane down for it. 400 miles at only 60mph through 2 major mountain passes would be quite an adventure. I'd need to recruit a ground crew. ::thinking::
I don't have too many Ex stories, she bolted after only 8 months (it was all my fault of course ::) ).
G-man I was a member of a single pilot's club several years back. The ladies there came up with a much longer list of why a plane/helicopter was better than a man. ::eek:: ::unbelieveable::

OK, here's a photo of my latest folly. Heading out for a ski flight. Yes, I know, I'm nuts flying open cockpit in the winter. ::loony::
How much did you pay for this? Did you buy it new?
Mike I bought it as a partially complete kit. I'd been helping the owner build it, In fact, I did the majority of the work, so he gave me a very good deal for my efforts.

I haven't had to crash land yet. 8) But that's the plan in an emergency.

Welcome back to da coop, Phil! ::wave:: Sorry to hear about the marraige. These things have been known to happen. However, time wounds all heels, or some such. ::silly::
When it comes to that, I still miss my ex...
But my aim is improving! Hehe. |:)\ >:D ::rambo::

Here in México you would be nuts to fly in the summer! It's rainy season with HUGE, windy thunderstorms & hail. The winter has the best weather, it's sunny dry season! ::drinking:: ::drinking:: ::drinking::
::bow:: I like your plane! |:)\
