Title: Skymaster with rocket launchers!
Post by: Frank N. O. on January 25, 2011, 01:20:41 PM
That is just too cool!!! |:)\ But how the heck did he get that FAA certified???? Even back in the 80's when they made Blue Thunder the crew had to get every single modification checked and tested before they were allowed to fly by the FAA, how did Murphy get mock weapons allowed on a civilian aircraft? How did he fit them btw, are there pylons on a Mixmaster as std?

Btw, great use of the word dummy, right up there with Shirley! |:)\

The trick is not to certify it as "civilian" aircraft but rather as "Experimental", Frank.  ;)
The O2-A was a military aircraft back in Vietnam and does have mounts on the wings for all kinds of things.

The next trick was to not ask too many questions with the FAA and to know people and get yourself involved with the airshow circus and Vintage Warplane people.....

See?

It's "the land of the f(r)ee" !! everything is possible!

A recently restored "Hurri-bomber" (Hurricane used for ground attack) had to go through all sorts of tests with the CAA so it could carry two fibre glass replica 250 pound bombs in flight on its racks.

yeah, if I remember right, Murph owned his O2 in the 80's which was way before 9/11.....

it was a simpler time back then.....

And a cheaper time, too. I look back and I can't believe I balked at paying $46/hr wet on a Cessna 150.  ::banghead::
