Title: DC3, DC4, CL-215,... ice pilots
Post by: cotejy on November 08, 2010, 03:23:03 PM
A few weeks ago, I found a serie on history channel (french version). It's probably already off air in History channel (english) but I think this worth mention here in case you can find it or if you would like to see some extract on http://www.icepilots.com/ (http://www.icepilots.com/).

This is a documentary on Buffalo air. They are flying DC3, DC4, and a bunch of other old airplane in the canadian north. I never had the chance to fly with them but I saw a few of thier DC3 landing on strips of ice while I worked in the north.

In yesterday episode, a guy had the chance to get his first ever payed flight time. This first hour of working as a pilot was:  flying and landing a DC4 on a small ice runway . Man I'm jealous.

If you can't have the chance to see the whole serie, I recommand you go to their site and look at the episodes teasers. Good scenes of old machine still flying on extreme weather.

I thought we talked about this before.  Cant get it here in the US, Canadian History channel and the US History Channel apparently dont play nice with each other, and the internet filters that Canada has blocks you from streaming it here in the US.  A way around it, is to use a proxy to view the feed, but as of yet, the free ones i've found are soooooo slow that streaming video is virtually impossible.

If you watch the crews of Buffalo Joe for a while you might get the idea that you don't have to go to Angola to get third-world aviation standards.

Of course, if you work in the Canadian arctic and you see the remains of Joe's fleet scattered about, you'd rather fly in Angola.

I've found the whole first season available for torrent download. I know it's not exactly a legal way to watch it... but anyway, this show really rocks. It's one of the best I've ever watched. Cotejy, I can't thank you enough for letting me know about it.

We won't bother.  Too many will be tuned into whatever channel the Kardashians are shaking their booty on.   ::loony:: ::banghead::
