Title: some Boeing history...
Post by: Mike on October 19, 2010, 06:03:49 PM
Here is some interesting history that has almost gone unnoticed.

Kinda sad to see such a historic hangar getting torn down:

The building has been neglected for decades.
The roof is caved in in places and part of the building is sinking into the river.

They waited until they could negotiate a deal.  The ground under the building is heavily contaminated with oils and toxic chemicals.  When the building is torn down, they will have to remove up to 15 feet of contaminated soil.

Part of the reclaimed land will become a park.

15 feet! ! !  ::eek:: ::unbelieveable:: ::eek::

That's gonna be expensive, wow!

It's probably for the best to have it torn down, ..... still sad though.
Like the kind of sad when they blew up all those cool old Navy Diesel subs as targets as well as those old F-4's......
