Title: Sally and Alex dropping in for a visit.....
Post by: Mike on October 12, 2010, 05:42:06 PM
So, I got this bird feeder up the other day because I really like the little finches we have and how their singing sounds in the morning when I wake up. It also attracts house sparrows, mocking birds and mourning doves. But this morning I had Sally and Alex in my yard, just hanging out with the other birds!
I said "Honey, I think we have a chicken in the yard." and she said "A chicken? Yeah right." probably thinking "What is this idiot up to now first thing in the morning" as she rolls over..... I did leave the gate to the side yard open last night. I guess they just walked in off the street or something..... Or maybe they were out for a night on the strip and got lost. Who knows?
Now, here is why this is funny. I live smack dab in the middle of Las Vegas, just South of Mc Carran airport in a little housing complex, not on a farm.... ;D ;D
What kind of chicken are they btw? New Hampshire Reds? or Red Stars?

Haa haa, what on EARTH are you doing with resident CHICKENS?? ::rofl::
That is some funny stuff! They're definitely not strays -- someone nearby must have a Coop!! They're in great shape.
And they're Rhode Island Reds -- not New Hampsters!! Haa, the only thing New Hampshire is famous for is its lovely weather.... ::loony::
(Maybe you'll have fresh eggs now....)
:D

Hmmm.... I thought the Rhode Island Reds had a taller comb on top .... ::thinking:: but they are still kinda young.
Turns out they were migratory birds and migrated 120 feet East from my neighbors yard. i didn't know he had chickens. he said he got them 4 weeks ago and the dog doesn't like 'em so he might have chased them into my yard where they found dog-free piece and tranquility, some shade, grass ....AND the food my little finches keep spilling from their little feeder.... I just had to laugh when I found those two underneath my feeder instead of the doves! ;D
And boy, the finches were confused and upset about the new situation. ::rofl::\
or maybe they knew about "Chicken Wings" and wanted to stop by.... ;)
