Title: The "Barefoot Bandit"
Post by: Mike on July 10, 2010, 05:57:43 PM
Have you guys ever heard of this guy?

http://www.heraldnet.com/article/20100706/NEWS01/707069922&news01ad=1 (http://www.heraldnet.com/article/20100706/NEWS01/707069922&news01ad=1)

I heard he started up in Washington State and is almost some sort of a local hero up there. I keep reading about him.
Almost can see a few CW strips in there......  ;D ;)

I have not seen anything in Puget Sound that calls him a hero.

At the Roche Harbor Airport on San Juan Island http://www.airnav.com/airport/WA09 (http://www.airnav.com/airport/WA09),
He broke into at least one hanger.
Stole a $1,200 bicycle and other supplies.
Damaged what was in the hanger (airplane was not there at the time).
When called, the Sheriff deputy did not show up for two weeks.

The airport residents oiled their guns and waited.
Luckily, he had already fled the area.

I have not commented before on this stupid Punk because I do not wish to add to his notoriety.  He thrives on the publicity he is receiving, and the more forums that have threads on him, the more it will encourage him to continue his antics.  What he does is a serious threat to public safety, and I don't like adding stuffing to his ego.  It is overstuffed enough IMHO.

The latest I read on this Punk kid is that he stole a Cessna Columbia 400 (ne Lancair) in Indiana and flew it all the way to the Bahamas where he ditched it in shallow water and ran ashore.  He is now harrasing the locals in Abaco Cay, and he will be lucky if he gets out of there before the local gendarmes catch him.  I hear the local jails aren't all that nice compared to stateside Juvenile Hall.

The Idle Youth of Washinton State may consider him a folk hero, but in reality he is a public nuisance at best, and a bona fide danger to public safety at worst.  This 19 year old will never grow up, will never stop stealing, and will either end up behind bars for a long time or will be killed by his own stupid actions.  I just hope he doesn't kill any innocent bystanders in the process, but history tells us otherwise.   ::banghead::

You're right. Somehow he has people helping him and hiding him I guess.....
But he's just a kid, they'll get him. I am not too worried about it.

It is kind of impressive how many crash landings he's walked away from though......
More than Chuck I think.  ;D ;)

IIRC, Chuck has never crashed an airplane.  Or am I mistaken?   ???

Looks like he got caught.  That didn't take long.

According to this, the kid has stolen at least five planes.  I hope he enjoys the local prisons.  He's no longer a Juvenile, so he'll be in with the big boys who'll make a toy of him.   ::eek::
