Title: Advantage or dis-advantage?
Post by: Oddball on April 14, 2009, 09:58:46 PM
Here is a question for all you pilots out there.  You all know i'm a wannabee pilot (flying radio controlled models)  in your opinon, be it fixed or rotary wing, do you think this this could be an advantage if I do decide to go for my PPL?  (and I'm looking into it)

It won't hurt, that's for sure. You learn all kinds of aerodynamics and I've found it to be almost harder to land a fast model plane than a "real" 150 to be honest with you. You'll have quite a lot of knowledge in how to plan your approach, consider wind, and so forth.
But the motor skills are a little different.
The hardest thing for me to get used to when flying a helicopter is to control the tailrotor with my fingers instead with my legs.  ::banghead::

Why are you asking?
Thinking of buying a new model and trying to justify the purchase?
 ;) ;D ;)

aye you could say that Mike how about a 1:1 scale C150? lol  With my Mech course work behind me I have a fair knowledge of most things so thought about going for my PPL  some time soon, one of my ex class mates has been doing his for the past six months when he has not been abroad with an oil company.

Nah, like Mike said, you already have knowledge from being a mechanic.

As for flying---not that difficult really.

Pull back and the trees get smaller, push forward and they get bigger..
