That's an interesting article...When I was in college, they told us that "Captain's Club" mentality was going away.  Hopefully that's the case...

Any further info on this incident? Has it happend before that a captain of a passenger-plane has directly disregarded the flight manuals? Here I'm assuming that the manuals are made from a lot of test so they will basically always provide the best course of action for an incident.

I think you're right. The next generation is a little different and way more trained on utilizing CRM...
PLUS they don't get paid nearly enough to develop a god-complex anymore.... ;)
