TOKYO — A FedEx cargo plane has crashed on landing at Tokyo's international airport and burst into a ball of flames. A pilot and co-pilot were aboard but their safety could not immediately be confirmed.
The plane was on a regular flight from Guangzhou, China. It landed under heavy winds early Monday, appeared to bounce and burst into flames as it skidded to a halt. Firetrucks were trying to put out the flames more than 30 minutes after the crash.
The plane was an MD-11, according to Japan's Kyodo News.

oh boy .... :-\
I just saw this on the news. They had the whole landing on tape. Scary!
And just yesterday we recovered a plane and two victims with our Huey. They crashed a single engine Piper low wing (could have been an Arrow, hard to tell) into the marsh land just West of Corona aiport and were killed instantly. It took us 5 hours to dig out the engine which was buried 10 feet in the mud. All in all not a good week for aviation....

Watched the tape, Looks like terrible winds and maybe some PIO involved, with tragic results.

Hard to say from that tape. Could easily have been wind shear or maybe they hit the pusher (also could have been in a shear situation).... hit the pusher, and it shoves you back into the ground, impact puts you back in flight. That's what happened to the Comair flight in LEX.
